Any contest beefalo that isn't yours will be in mating season if the herds nearby are in it, this will make them instantly attack the pigs and merms or anything near them, causing the contest to instantly end and also making it impossible to have one until the herds stop mating
Steps to Reproduce
1- Wait for the beefalo herd to start mating
2- Start a contest
3- The AI contest beefalo will attack anything near and end the contest
A developer has marked this issue as fixed. This means that the issue has been addressed in the current development build and will likely be in the next update.
