Damaged pillars aren't repaired like traditional pillars or ruins decor.
Instead they have the construction kit prompt.

If I gave it say, 4 rocks...
Nothing changes and the rocks are consumed. The counter went down. Huh?
Steps to Reproduce
Damage a pillar and try giving it rocks to repair it. Play around with over-feeding the counter.
A developer has marked this issue as fixed. This means that the issue has been addressed in the current development build and will likely be in the next update.
