Lunar Mutant Merms revert to using a loyalty timer when fed

This happends with me and shadow ones. But they get loyalty from me feeding another merm and then they detatch from me and attack my friend.

I tried checking with the insight mod because I was curious what was causing this so take this with a grain of salt.

But what seems to happen is after they transform their loyalty timer disappears but their ask for food timer remains despite not needing food.

If you feed them or they're in the range of the shared loyalty buff from feeding a merm nearby them the loyalty timer is reapplied and you need to keep feeding them to maintain loyalty like normal.

Again take this with a grain of salt as I'm not savy enough to know how to look at the code myself.

Is this the intended interaction? It's still working like this.
