MaiaPr
I'm playing DST with the RoG DLC. I need to craft things that require pig skin and can't be repaired, like the football helmet. So I need to farm pigs. I was thinking of putting traps near their houses, but wouldn't that summon Krampus? I'm not too keen on fighting him every time and risk losing my items. If I kill 'innocent' creatures with traps, will Krampus be summoned, or does it not matter because I'm not killing them directly? Are pigs considered 'innocent' or hostile creatures? What is the most efficient way to farm pig skin? Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/97815-about-pig-farms/ Share on other sites
Zillvr
Hello @MaiaPr, welcome to the forums. Did you mean Don't Starve specifically (and not Don't Starve Together)? Cause it's Don't Starve that has the RoG DLC. Assuming so, I'll be moving this thread over to the Don't Starve subforum. To answer your question, pigs getting killed by toothtraps doesn't increase the naughty meter for Krampus to spawn. Killing them yourself would increase it by a little bit. Pigs are considered as Neutral, I believe. Except they are hostile towards Webber. The easiest way to farm pig skin is to feed a pig 4 monster meat to force turn them to werepigs which will not increase naughty meter if you kill it. A werepig will drop 2 large meats and 1 pigskin, always. So this is the best way to farm pig skins manually. Just be prepared for combat, wear logsuit/helmet and start hitting the werepig WHILE it HOWLS for the first time, you should be able to hit it for free 5 times before you need to start dodging and kiting it. To be safe, 2 hits then run. Then 2 hits again. Also fight them on brickroads so you can kite better with faster movement. There are other tricks to farm pigs, so just specifically youtube for "Pig Farm Don't Starve", though takes a long while to set up. I can't go into detail on that though since I've never tried it. That's about it. Good luck, cheers. Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/97815-about-pig-farms/#findComment-1106945 Share on other sites
Mychon
If you have a lot of pighouses placed together, you can drop a pig skin or powdercake (something that attracts pigs but doesn't spoil) on the floor and put walls around it, that way pigs will constantly try to eat it. When you have that set up you can feed one or more pigs a meat or monster meat to befriend it and then force them to attack another pig. This way you will start a war and all pigs will kill each other. You can just pick up the loot and enjoy! (Make sure you pick it up quickly before pigs start to eat it.) Also, if you are worried about krampus spawning when you are using traps. Don't worry. Krampus can only spawn if the player kills innocent creatures. Traps are considered environmental damage so this doesn't affect your naughtiness. However I would actually recommend NOT avoiding krampus because he has a small chance to drop one of the best items in the game (Krampus Sack) if you don't have one already. Same thing works for krampus, If you drop an item surrounded by walls krampus will constantly be attracted towards the item (if no other items are around) and you can kill them one at the time easily.
