Sasza22
Raw metal is one of the unrenewable resources and super late game you might end using all of it or changing it into refined which is renewable through meteors and volcanoes. But why is this an issue? I started wondering what would you build out of raw metal lategame. Airlocks - How about changing the automatic airlock to 100 refined metal instead of 400 raw? Only downside would be termal conductivity but i expect we will get an insulated airlock sooner or later anyway. Pumps - Plastic pumps just aren`t efficient enough. Making regular pumps from refined metals would be logical but since it doesn`t work for any other building then amybe thre should be new pump type buildable out of refined metals. Maybe it could suck gas/liquid from a few tiles away (through a small pipe that you can rotate when building it so it doesn`t have to be in the element it`s pumping (downside would be power consumption and size). Radiant gas pipes - so radiant liquid pipes are made from refined metal but gas are from raw? I see no reason not to make both types use refined metal. Fire pole - it`s under "refined materials" technology but uses raw metal. Sounds weird. Maybe it should take less material but refined instead. Atmo suits - well lategame you should have enough of those but if you run out of copper ore they are a serious problem. Smooth hatches - they only eat raw metal so without a renwable source they have to eventually go extinct. Just throwing around some ideas. irOninfernO
What i think the dev are doing? Just my opinion, may or may not be true. As for pump requiring refined metal , then there won't be water pumps available early game before pumps are early game material aside from the pitcher pump. Late game pumps requiring plastic don't make sense either. Since the updates the dev probably thought that the core stuff such as doors, water pumps, air pumps are set in stone requiring no additional improvements. Why mess with the basic stuff serving as the core fundamental foundation for the game? Adding new pumps make more sense than messing with the basic equipment , so i agree with that. For pipes, devs might think that wait, you can start off using air to cool down your base before using water. It could well has been the other way around but you have to remember HVAC cost 1/4 of the power cost than the aquatuner. To achieve aquatuner power requirement of 1200W, you will need refined metal. Refined metal is consider mid game material so matching the air cooling to raw and water cooling to refined make more sense. Atmo suits should remove the restriction of the raw copper ore and change it to all types of raw ore. Devs prob forgot about the atmo suits and been too busy changing every minor thing. As for the atmo suits i think they should keep a recipy with raw metal for early game (with serious stat drawbacks, much higher than the current -6 athletics) and introduce more types for higher tech but maybe without temp protection so the basic ones are still useful but with additional perks like sunburn protection.
