Sorry if someone suggested this before, but have you guys considered introducing robots as craftable characters?  While robots don't eat, perhaps you could require them to charge their batteries at some station that requires careful power management to achieve.  Robots could do the menial tasks like mopping, sanitizing (or whatever it is the dupes are doing when they shoot that green cloud), and sweeping.  They would obviously be immune to infection, oxygen-independent, and impartial to stress or decor, and depending on the material their made from, such as one with insulator properties, they could withstand high temperatures.

I realize that would make the game essentially perhaps too easy, so maybe there is a way to make them a component of the game without making the game too easy (eg, breakdown requiring parts only dupes can provide, requiring a significant amount of energy that can be achieved only later in the game, or go skynet on the base in lieu of a stress reaction..)

It has been suggested, but I don't think the suggestion of them charging was. I would prefer if they consumed a fairly large chunk of electricity, and possibly need a room and a dupe to monitor them, they could also be susceptible to water? But have large carry weights and do menial tasks like you mentioned.

Hate to be that person but yes, It was suggested, three time at least. (and likely more) And the idea of them charging up came up in the discussions.

I doesn't feel there's much more to say to it that has't been said (generaly seen as a good idea idea but with different details, would require some major balancing as to how it'd work, what resource it'd cost and wht robots coulddo weither autonomously or remote piloted).

Except maybe that with a fairly common complain for the cosmic update being the need to have your duplican go outside to dig regolith from bunker doors, a digging robot/drone would be that much more atractive an option to have as a solution.
