Need More Dupe Control and Feedback

Recommended Posts

I've recently bought this game and I am loving it so far; but, I feel like the game needs more Dupe commands or priority. I been having a problem with food. Not making of it, more of my starving dupes not eating it. Maybe a command or priority that when food is available that it will make sure the more staving dupes get to eat first of others. So far, the only reason my dupes die is because of starvation. I've watched my dupes, (ones I know have just eaten) go back to the room and eat food that was just produced. It angers me to see my dupes starve because of the game not making sure starving dupes eat first. It maybe also work priority too. I've had a Chef starve because he was too busy making food rather than eating so he could keep making food. I want either control of who eats and how much they eat, or the game at least makes sure that the most starving Dupe eats first.

Also would like an earlier warning if a dupe gets stuck up on a ledge.

As for feedback, loving this game so far. I don't think I've ran into any actual bugs yet. I've notice that dupes will sometimes climb a 2 block high space and get stuck, but i don't know if that might be perfect timing because they are mining when it happens. Keep up the good work Klei and love the artwork.

I haven't faced this issue before. Are you sure you have enough food production? Maybe you need another grill? A dupe will eat to get back to 4000kcal never more. Only reason they would eat more is if they are stressed and start binge eating.

I agree with Safekeeper1 on this one and thought about it before when playing the game and being low on food. The miner was starving and would die because they weren't in close proximity to the food and other dupes would get the next food first instead of the starving one....and the miner just worked themselves to death instead of eating. I would be happy to see a priority for something like self-care. If they are grimiest, they get to the shower first, if they are starving, they go for food before other tasks.

Definitively. At the very least, duplicant AI should prioritie 'vital' need such as eating when starved over less essential needs like need or stress. It's very annoying to see a starving duplicant dying because they just had to go to sleep or get a massage rather than fetch a ration.

Tht said, Dev did say in their dev jounal (admitedly that as way back in 2017 when I read it) that Duplicant should have more interaction so hopefully that may include comunicating ad slighy more comple behavios such as heping each other as such as letting starving duplicant in the room get food in priority or drag a suffocating duplicant back to a place with oxygen, who knows ?

(In my experience it more often happens when for a moment food is scarce at the start of a day (you ran outa rations, food shortage) but become abundant later because say you just had a big harvest of mealwood or berries or just dug some muckroots.) Ormabe when your pants jsut aren't getting harvested fast enough.

An no, I'm not preteding it's not bad play on my part when that sort o siuatin happens in the first plce, idealy you should alway have reserves, for one or two days but, in he very start of a colony, the time to get stable farming going can be a little variable depending on how many seeds you dig around you and such.

But it's still a little jarring when at the end of the day a dplicant wil imeditlay turn and go hit the sack like a robot rather thn getting the precious ration two steps away. It's even more when it's not a situationof food scarcty but it's due to the stress releif mechanic. Sometime Duplicant 'on break' will prioritize the massage table over everything, even starvng to death...)
