Jigsawn Posted March 26, 2018 Share Posted March 26, 2018 Diseases Once you learn how to keep your base fairly germ-free of slimelung/food poisoning it's quite easy to keep on top of. So I would like to see some mid/late game diseases that put your setups to the test with different transmission methods and symptoms. Perhaps these can be introduced in higher difficulties or only found on the far reaches of the asteroid to avoid overkill for newer players. Here are some ideas: - Diseases that need showers to be removed, not just sinks. - Critters that can transmit disease to dupes and/or other critters (damage control on big hatch farms for example would be scary. Do you kill or isolate the infected creatures? Maybe some domesticated critters can be vulnerable to the same diseases as dupes. - Diseases that can be brought into the base via foot traffic (including exosuit) - decontamination room possibility to avoid (requires mid-tech, chlorine, etc) - Diseases that can be invisible on the germ overlay, unless detected via a scanner/scientist/doctor. Requiring more detective work to find out the source. - Parasites holding a disease, which can transfer between passing dupes, food, storage, etc. Perhaps first contracted via physical contact with unfiltered water/polluted water (RIP underwater miners/architects :P). - More airborne diseases like slimelung which live in other gases and are dangerous to pump around the base, potentially contaminating gas equipment. Right now exosuits make airborne diseases a non-factor outside of your base - perhaps gases with corrosive qualities could still infect your dupes through exosuits. Countered with new equipment or sterilization of infected areas. - "Lesser" diseases that are more resistant to standard hygiene practices, with symptoms like colds, sickness, lowered stats, or just lower immunity a lot - requiring a bigger emphasis on medbays and medicine production to keep your dupes in optimal shape. - Diseases contracted as a side effect of visiting ruins/rummaging through old artifacts - Very contagious diseases like chicken pox which can quickly decimate your dupes and put your med bay and quarantine setups to the test. - More symptoms such as personality or stress changes, narcolepsy, irrational phobias of minerals/foods/animals/water etc - Disease transmitted via electricity? Maybe from a parasite which attaches to batteries/power generators and causes power lines or power consumers to be contaminated (see critter ideas thread for more).
