Developer feedback - 4 quality of life changes

Recommended Posts

Love the game so far! As a developer, I noticed a couple points of interest in duplicant logic and general gameplay.

  1. Duplicants carrying items for construction have no "look ahead", if they are building a granite ladder while mining away abyssalite blocks they will mine once, build once, then return to storage for materials. This is really frustrating to watch, it can be worked around by building a local storage or by building the ladders in the same material as the mined substance. Ideally duplicants would attempt to carry materials for n queued building points up to their carrying limit (assuming the first mining and ladder building is successful, execute a 2nd based on what would be in range, etc.)

  2. Duplicant checkpoints should have a toggle for active when wearing exosuit or disabled when wearing exosuit; without this, exosuit docks have to be built in linear entry/exit points. If you create a network, duplicants will start dropping exosuits at the wrong docks since their return paths do not necessarily match their entry paths. This also severely limits creativity with the tube network, today networks need to be either entirely contained or entirely isolated from your main base. If the duplicant checkpoint could be programmed for these states the interactions with tube networks could be greatly expanded.

  3. Duplicants do not have a concept of time, they will start running across the map to achieve a task right before the sleep timer elapses. Would be nice if they had some intelligence here as the night is drawing near.

  4. The steam generator is disappointing, would be awesome if there's a smaller more accessible version that interacts with a steam geyser, producing some power and lowering temperature of output.

Thanks for making a great game! I can't wait to see more.
