A few small quality of life things

Recommended Posts

1) speed up sweeping/hauling.

this is kinda self explanatory. It just takes forever to sweep up a bunch of stuff that's lying on the ground if they get out of hand.

2) speed up start/stop times

stuff like mopping, digging, and a few others take too long to start up. it makes the game feel like it's taking forever, which makes it feel boring.

3) make more batch-ey things

anything that takes resources to make something else (microbe musher, research table, etc.) should use up the ingredients at the end or beginning of the process, not as it goes. this is so that you don't have a bunch of duplicants constantly running to refill a few drops of water on the microbe musher when they could be doing more productive things.

4) take more stuff from rimworld.

It's obvious to someone who's played both that OnI has taken quite a bit of inspiration from rimworld. And that's totally fine! However, I think that not enough was taken. For example, digging gives you WAY too much stuff. maybe have a "dig" option that's faster but gives less stuff, and a "mine" option that's the opposite?

Also, take the job priority listing (manual prioritizing via numbers, not just yes/no) from rimworld.

As well as that, there should be a queue option for "make _____ until you have __ of them" with a changeable number

And that's about it! basically, here's the bottom line: make everything as quick and snappy as physically possible. rimworld gets away with this a bit better by having an art style with basically 0 animations, but I'm sure it's possible for OnI too. That's what ultimately killed the experience for me in banished, too: the whole game felt too slow.

Think of it like this: you should never be in the situation where the max speed doesn't feel fast enough, or where your people do jobs slowly enough that you have to stop what you're doing and simply wait for them to catch up to you for 1-2 cycles.
