Need Help, modding error

So I scripted my own character in Don't Starve. I wanted to make sure that it worked in game before I did the art for him, but whenever I try to activate him via the mod page, it does 1 of two things. It either asks me if I'm sure if I want to enable mods or something, and when I press enable, my game instantly stops responding and crashes (I tested this with other mods, works fine with them). Or two, it wont bring up that message, but it will just go black. The game is responding and working, because I can still use the steam overlay, but its just black. Anyone know or have any ideas on how to fix?
