Discovery or Bug? Catcoon Herds around pre destroyed stumps? Endless mole meat?

So I am not sure if this is a bug or a discovery.

I settled near the Glommer statue as normal during a game that started in Spring.  So when I checked on the catcoon stumps nearby ALL of them were destroyed and surrounded by multiple Catcoons.  One had like 6 of them.  To be clear I didn't destroy the stumps.

Not only that but there are multiple mole holes near them (which seem to multiply?  Maybe Catcoons are coughing up moles that can make new holes now?  Do mole multiply?).  Which means in addition to the random stuff the Catcoons are coughing up and not picking up because they keep trying to go into the broken stump there are always morsels near them.

So I am assuming this is some sort of bug?  It seems just too weird.  I am sure in the winter penguins will clear out a couple of these "Catcoon Herds".  It's a shame that like 4 stumps were mysteriously destroyed.  But this setup almost seems like cheating.  Every time I walk down there it's a minimum of 6 morsels and random Catcoon drops.  I have like 80 rot.

But considering the bad luck I have had before I am just gonna start a jerky plant.

Welp looks like it was a bug!

When I loaded the game the catcoon herds scattered to the 4 winds leaving the debris of their brief communal living.

Man look at all those mole holes.  They must have been dropped and made new holes.  No other explanation.

It was fun while it lasted!
