RogueYun
So I recently was playing on a cave only server and was finding it very enjoyable. Grass and many other resources were extremely scarce and some resources were nonexistent like flower petals (which stunk for me as Wendy when someone took my flower for a while) and wool. I liked the difficulty with the scarcity of the resources... but I was kind of sad that those resources could never be increased (or ever seen) in the caves. I was reminded of an old roguelike I used to play (ADOM) and an interesting game mechanic they had. A very, VERY rare item, spellbook, or pool (potion) would ask you "What do you wish for?" And the player could respond with what they wanted/needed. I was thinking that DST could benefit from such a mechanic. Especially the servers without caves or the servers that are cave only. Servers that are very old and have had many of their resources pillaged, burned, or destroyed could also benefit form this mechanic. Maybe the item could be a book or a craftable magic lamp? Maybe once used it could give something that looks like the chest interface and you can select one of a group of random and rare things. Some examples of items I think might be suitable for wishing would be things like: Nonrenewable items (Fireflies, Berry Bushes, Catcoon, Etc.) Rare Items (Rare Gems, Gears, Etc.) (I know gears aren't rare in the ruins but still) Cave Only Items (Lightflower or Bulbs, Rock Lobsters, Etc.) Surface Only Items (Beefalo or wool, Butterflies, Birch Nuts, Etc.) I know such a mechanic can be difficult to implement. But if done right It can be a lot of fun. Especially if it has a "Be careful what you wish for!" kind of response to it. Like wishing for bees summons a bunch of bees that attack you or wishing for rabbits underground causes them to rain on your head like in an earthquake. Such an item that grants wishes should be extremely rare and/or VERY hard to make... but I think it would be something people would be eager to try to get despite the heavy risks that might be involved.
