Pal-Locale - Shared Map System Idea!

Recommended Posts

Hey! I haven't been on the forums in about a million years, but I was playing DST with some friends and had an idea for a "craft-able shared map" of...handiness. Maybe. Okay, so it's not a new idea by any means, but I'm even gonna make the post sort of organized so that the idea looks cooler!

Idea: Shared map system that you have to work for (I keep calling it a "Pal-Locale" because I'm bad at naming things and I'd mainly use it for locating my friends.)

Recipe: Under the "survival" tab, probably. Might need some rope and...boards. Papyrus. A compass. Maybe some of Wilson's beard. Souls of the innocent. Gorilla glue.

How it Works: After crafting a Pal-Locale, players can wander around aimlessly as they usually do, but they can come back to the Pal-Locale and right-click on it. Right-clicking "updates" the map on the Pal-Locale so that everyone on the server has an updated map. But you have to update the Pal-Locale for everyone's maps to be updated. Here, I drew it because I can't think in words this idea is ineffable.

Things to Think About: The benefits could be greater if it costs more to make it. Maybe add some magic into the recipe and checking the map boosts your sanity a tiny bit. It's nice to know where your pals are. Maybe you need charcoal to use it? I'm trying to think of the benefit-cost ratio but I'm quickly diving into over-thinking territory.

(I looked around the forums first to see if someone else had this idea first but I didn't see one. However, I am also terrible at absorbing words into my brain, so please forgive me if I overlooked a topic that is extremely similar. And who knows, they might just make it so that maps are shared automatically. But whatever, this was fun!)
