Prime Apes and their Problems

Recommended Posts

While playing Shipwrecked today, I recently discovered that Prime Ape Huts can spawn on an island a little more than they should. So many spawned, in fact, that it made my game lag down to 15 FPS. What's even more frustrating is that there was also a touch stone on that island, so when I died to a Snow Hound, I respawned and there was no way getting off of the island because it was all jungle and the apes had stolen every resource that was lying on the ground near the touch stone -- I couldn't even make an axe. I had to die of starvation for the XP, because there was no other way to die, either. I personally think there should be a limited amount of Prime Ape Huts naturally-spawning on the world, because some computers (sad to admit, this includes mine) can't run that much stuff at once. This next part should probably go in the general thread, but I'd like Touch Stones to act kind of like a jury-rigged portal when activated: it'll look around and make sure land has some resources on it, and if it does not, it spawns them. I'm not sure.

Whenever you find a touch stone, place a chest with some armor/weapons/basic resources in it so you have stuff when you respawn. You should also get in the habit of having at least one pre-built shape on you at all times. The resource/touchstone issue is an issue of not preparing for the situation. Can happen just as easily without the Prime Apes.

As for the lag, I haven't had an issue with Prime Apes, just with auto-saves and day cycle changes. Maybe they could limit the number of huts within an amount of space or clean up some code somehow to prevent too much lag.

I realized I had forgot to put down a chest -- I was planning to, but it's hard to do once you hit day 23+, because of the hurricane season.

I like the idea of limiting the number of huts on an island. It seems like a better idea, or maybe limit the number of monkeys that can be active at one time.

I have one time the lag problem. Just put like 10~15 apes at the screen moving at the same time and I can feel the frame drop.

My config: i3-3240, geforce 9800gt and  4GB RAM ddr3. Run the game on win7 Ultimate 64 bits

Suggest you to put your config here too.
