Piggyback while on boats

I've been trying to figure out if the piggyback is slowing my character while sailing, it's difficult to tell so there can't be much of a difference. I don't think the piggyback should slow you while you are sailing, does anyone know for sure one way or the other?

 

EDIT: After doing some basic testing I think that the piggyback does not slow you while you are sailing, this means it is now far more useful than the backpack. Simply sail to a destination fill up the piggyback and drop it leaving 14 items behind and having more slots for pickups on the island, this should make it much more beneficial in Shipwrecked, and also make up for the added difficulty of spawning Krampus.
