need help or a template

I'm trying to create a custom Chester mod that uses a pre-existing custom player character model. I am completely lost. I tried modifying the personal chesters mod and just got frustrated.

 

If anyone would be so kind as to give me a suggestion on an online tutorial or perhaps create a template for said mod that I could modify with a different character, It would be super helpful.

 

The Ultimate goal is to create a new Gir (Invader zim) mod that sets him as a Following box instead of a player character.
