Real Quick Problems with Don't Starve

Recommended Posts

I went to in the cave beta with my fiance and here was some quick problems with the game which made me give up on it quickly afterwards.

1) As usual, no one plays wilderness mode and PvP has no love.

Can't blame them, wilderness mode is perfect for PvP but PvP isn't balanced nor does it have any work put into it. Very disappointing.

2) Survival mode is pointless, at least for me it is.

Joined a survival server, went to a person's base, they had everything to the point that we all could of easily lasted indefinitely. I sat back and asked myself, "What is the point of playing, it's like I've already beat the game." This is a big reason why I'm known to ask for a balanced and functioning PvP so these bases could have an actual threat. It's not that I wanted to destroy the base, it's just when I get to this part of the game, I simply lose interest of playing because it feels like I've won.

3) Still very difficult to join a server on any season besides Autumn.

Afterwards, me and my fiance agreed on leaving their base and starting our own so we can at least have a challenge and actually have a reason to play the game. Outside the base without the endothermic fire, we were overheating because it was summer and it only got worse when we realized we were overheating during dusk and night.

4) Replenishing still needs some improvements.

As we tried to find ways to survive and stop ourselves from overheating, we quickly realized that we couldn't get a hold of practically any resource. Summer may have some part in this, but it was so unbelievably noticeable that right outside of the base was nothing of value. All the grass tufts, saplings, flowers, and berry bushes were already taken. But that wasn't the worst of it, there was no flint and there almost never is flint in any multiplayer server. It's such a crucial resource that without flint on a server, the game becomes unplayable.

5) In my opinion the game is still unplayable in public servers.

So we quit the game once again waiting for the game to become playable for public servers. I'm hoping the Through the Ages is the expansion that I'm looking for. The frontier package made me believe that this game is trying to push us from making camps into possibly having settlements, which would be amazing.

What I'm hoping for is that characters that will work with each other in surviving and would evolve into classes. I'd like to see some significant PvP improvements so wilderness mode can actually be worth playing. I'd want to see the game not hurt new players from joining servers, making it easy for them to get started and be on their feet regardless of season and without having to worry about if there is crucial resources around. And last, I'd like to see some longer term survival with mounts and settlements instead of camps.
