ekmaust
I've been thinking for a while about the whole map-sharing issue. It drives me crazy, working with a friend and trying to describe where something is. I don't like the idea of sharing openly, where I can see everything they can. That seems too easy. So I thought of something that would fit the spirit of the game. I would love to see a craftable map table. Something that someone can build, and then when you interact with it, your map is updated with the information that's on the table, and your explored areas get stored in the table. I don't know if this is feasible based on the way data such as maps are stored, but I'd love to see something like this implemented. Pandawaffle
I agree, coordinating map knowledge can be a pain amoungst friends. For those of my Friends and I who can dualscreen we can simply use the Steam Watch Game function to view each others maps, but I think adding more functionality to the map in-game is a better solution to this work-around.In minecraft the recipe for a map is a compass and paper, which could be a basis for a recipe in DST, maybe with the addition of a Jet Feather (as a quill) to make the item more complex to match its usefulness.Another map feature which I would love to have is units of distance. In every game my friends and I have to agree upon a set unit of distance (usually the distance between the Portal and a close by coast or road) for us to reference when describing things to each other. You see, that neat diamond pattern surrounding revealed area scales as you zoom out the map, making it an unstandardized measure :/A map feature could also be used as a neat trap . Imagine finding one of the perished traveler skeletons with a "Treasure Map" next to it. The sharing feature of a map would be more grainy than territory personally explored, so it would be simply be coastal borders, biome colors, and important landmarks (Pig King, Sinkholes...) overlayed in a crayonesque pallet on unrevealed territory of your map. Sometimes these world-generated maps would, indeed, lead to riches--other times, a den of hounds!
