My toughts on the new Dont Starve beeing a stand alone

So i've been lurking around alot in this forums and on reddit and obviously most people are disappointed with the new dont starve "add on" beeing a stand alone, me included. But what i dont like is a lot of people are saying that it should be easy to implement it into the main game, just make a boat which brings you to the islands e.g. but i dont think that its that simple.

Why? Well we know that Klei was working on this expansion before they started working on DST. Therefore they have already build some kind of balance into the game. There would be no challenge if we would be able to travel to the islands when ever we want. We could just go there with full gear and all the challanges the developers intended for us would be disappear.

What could a possible solution be for that? The islands had to be rebalanced entirely to be something like the caves. You cant enter the caves before you have established a solid base and got some gear. Why? Because its always Dark and nearly everything wants to kill you. So you would need a similar challenge on the islands. But would it fit the theme of the those tropical islands if everything wants to kill you?

The second aspect is that you should be able to combine items from the islands with items from the regular lands to get the full experience. It would be retarded if you could go to the islands, play what klei intended for shipwrecked, and build a boat, which would have no use in the regular DS world. This would be a major gamedesign flaw.

The third aspect is the implementation of Units and Mechanics which already exists in the real ds world.

How would Winter affect the world of SW? Should it Snow on tropical Islands? How does fall and spring look on tropical islands? Is it Summer all the time? I think bringing the same seasons back as they have right now on rog should be now problem even if it looks weird in the first place, DS plays in a "magical" world. Some people said that in Winter, the Sea should be frozen so you could walk over it. I on the otherside dont like that idea. I think if they intend to make winter on those islands, you should be freeze faster when you are wet or when you go diving. Also flowing water never freezes completly.

We should also consider the implementation of the Giants. How would giants work in tropical islands. Well this part is actually easy. They wont. They would stay in their part of the game, the ROG part and the SW part would have their own bosses (for example the one fish we saw in the trailer). SW could act like the caves. You miss the Giant when you are in the caves all the time. In SW it could be the same.

I think the main reason why people dislike the Idea of SW beeing a standalone is that they cant combine the main game with the SW content. The Postgame of dont starve is pretty stale already. The game is fun as long as you can set yourself new goals, like mega bases. I played a shitload of hours DS already and surving is not a challenge anymore. People hoped SW would bring more content so you could still do new stuff 100+ days into the game. With SW beeing a standalone, alot of the thing we like from the original would disappear.

Therefor its not appropriate from Klei to call it an expansion when it really is just a spinoff!

Also some people argue that the design decision of SW beeing a Standalone was because of the Money which is understandable. A Standalone game will be sold more to newer customers when a DLC is only bought by already existing once. And also not everyone who owns regular DS will buy the DLC. To prevent this from happening, they could release to versions of it. But after reading the post from one of Klei's developers, i dont think that the main decision of this was Money. Because no other company would RECONSIDER a decision like this. They would just say **** it but it seems for klei its more important how fans of their games like their decisions.

As a huge DS fan, i hope they turn this thing into a DLC. I would love to build a base on islands but also be able to go to the caves or kill giants when ever i want. I dont want to miss the game aspects they integrated already and play a spin off of a game i already own. What I've seen till now did not impress me enough to buy the game.
