Lan server does not appear in list.

Recommended Posts

I have a server running in LAN mode (using -lan on startup). Server starts up just fine.

I load client, change filters to Show LAN: Yes. And the server list is blank.

I try this on another computer on my network, same results. it looks like the server is up and running, but no one can see it in their server list when it is set to LAN mode.

The server was downloaded via steamcmd yesterday. There are no obvious errors on server startup.

I can run half-life and minecraft servers on this box, and both myself and all other comptuers on the network can see them and join just fine, I've been doing that for years.

I'm not quite sure where to start troubleshooting. Is there any way to tell DST to look at a specific IP for a LAN server?

I'm running Slackware 64 bit on the server, and the other comptuers in my house are either running Windows 7 or Slackware 64 bit.

I already saw that. Most of it appears to apply to routers and public servers, not Lan servers. Since it is a Lan server I am running, I don't have to forward any port, nor do I need to worry about loopback.

In this case, I fixed it by updating the server files. Apparently there was an update today, and today's client will not see servers running yesterday's version. Go figure. I updated the server and now the LAN server appears in the browser list just fine.

We have a known issue with connecting from inside the same network as a Dedicated Server.  We will be working on a fix for this in the coming days.   I'm not sure if anyone else can suggest a work around in the mean time?

This seems to be the same issue you are experiencing. Either that or you're probably overlooking a filter. Lastly make sure you setup your server token (is this required for LAN servers?).

A token is not required for lan server. And the filters are quite the no-brainer. Lan=Yes.

It didn't work and it didn't work and it didn't work. Then I remembered there was a notice about an update dated today. So even though I installed the server clean the day before, I updated it again with steamcmd. As soon as I did that, the server started to appear on the server list. And it never once after that failed to appear. Maybe they fixed this problem with that latest update? Either that or the client can't see a server that is out of date. Flip a coin....

Here is what happened today:

Start server.

I can't see the server, but another computer on the network can.

Stop server

Update with steamcmd, notice that there are updates

Start server

I can see it!!!

The other computer on my network can't

Restart client on other computer, they get "An update for don't starve together beta is available, would you like to launch it now or update first?"

Update

Start client.

Now they can see server also.

This supports my belief that the client and server must be the exact same version, or the client won't see the server. It was not until both client and server were on the same version that the client was able to see the server.

It would be nice if the server would at least show in the list, but not be accessible. That way we would know what the problem is, instead of pulling out our hair and reinventing the wheel in an attempt find out why our server is not on the list.
