AnimStates and ARM_carry

I'd like to know how ARM_carry and ARM_normal are defined, (along with their helmet and armor equivalents)  and if they can be changed/altered. 

 

A friend of mine and I are, well, trying to build our own anim build from scratch, for player characters. All I need is to be able to define where the armor is placed, and where the weapon is held.
