Klei Response Please - Map Destruction/Griefing on Klei Public Official Dedicated Servers

**Disclamer**  I realize I've somewhat brought up different facets of this issue in various posts around the forum the last couple of days - and if you're tired of seeing it - get over it. This needs addressed ASAP.

---Mass destruction of the non-renewable resources on the map - namely grass tufts and saplings - as well as the semi-renewable ones such as trees (I say semi, because once the trees are charred, you are not gauranteed to get any pinecones at all from chopping them down.)

 

And actually to be honest, this isn't really a suggestion - as fixing this NEEDS to happen for their public dedicated servers ASAP, and I'm sure that it will but I, and I'm sure many others would just like an update or info onto when and how this will be happening, or at least that countermeasures are being taken and looked into. I didn't know how to contact Klei directly, and if someone does know contact information I could get a hold of them - by all means please give it to me.

 

Title says it all - Didn't know how to make title shorter w/o hopefully grabbing the attention of someone from Klei who can give ANY insight onto what they are working on to prevent/reverse/punish this huge issue. I asked this in the stream today, but the stream was pausing occasionally for me (slow internet) and in my question, I asked for a typed out response and explained the stream was pausing for me, but they just answered in the stream chat - which was fine - I just missed some of it because of the pausing and such.

 

I asked what they were going to do about griefing in general, and from the piece that I actually was able to catch - they said something about the server hosts being able to "roll back" the servers to previous 'snapshots' of the servers. This is all well and good - and I'm sure will REALLY help people actually monitoring their servers as long as it's up (player hosted being the main one that comes to mind, as they have to actually be playing for it to be up anyways, so they'll always be able to roll back as soon as it starts happening).

 

But this did not address what I was actually after - and I realized after the fact I should have been more specific and asked about their PUBLIC DEDICATED WILDERNESS servers - And that was My mistake. But what I actually wanted to know never got answered. And this is a HUGE glaring problem as EVERYONE who has seriously tried (i.e. not the griefers) to play on the Amazon East (now 21) population server specifically - as well as the other larger population public ones I'm sure - would ALL agree. I mean, everyone in the chat constantly is like "wtf? where is all the grass and twigs?" or "wellp.... guess this server got nuked already."

 

Seriously. I've tried playing as soon as the server has been re set daily for the last couple of days, which seems to be around 4 or 5 p.m. central time (my time zone) so I can at least get SOME level of enjoyable gameplay from this server - because I really do find it the most fun when it hasn't been destroyed -  and I get there usually sometime between day 10 and 15, and grass, saplings, and trees are ALREADY beginning to completely disappear by that point on certain areas of the map hit by the pyromaniac griefers. Obviously we all know a huge portion of it stems from the Willow Lighter since it can be used day 1, right off the bat, without left clicking anything ever and repeated until death by starvation, but it's not limited to just that character because....

 

ANYONE AND EVERYONE can use that flipping lighter since it drops on her death. This is ANOTHER thing that needs fixed ASAP! like. This should have been done a while ago. The same thing goes for Wendy's flower - I'm tired of seeing that just uselessly littered all over the world. I've kind of started using them as ghetto map markers to make SOME use out of them but still. NO ONE BUT WILLOW SHOULD EVER BE ABLE TO USE HER LIGHTER. Just make it despawn on death. It's really that simple.

Sorry for the long-winded post but I had to get all of this out there. This type of server has SO much potential. And it's even a pvp server, and that's FINE! That's great actually - I like the "survival of the fittest" aspect of it. The server just loses pretty much all semblance of fun and longevity because of this issue. I would reallllllllllly like a response from someone at Klei on more information please. Thank you and keep up the good work with DST! This is gonna be huge! Just fix these sort of issues fast because it'll kill the public style games faster than anything

It's not exactly difficult to harvest a few grass and twigs for torches before you start lighting everything on fire.

LOL did you even read my whole post? I smell a griefer here scared of Klei ruining their "fun". I said her lighter isn't the ONLY way people can do it, obviously because torches exist. I just stated it's the easiest, fastest, and least time consuming way to do it - which, obviouslyyyyyyyy griefers are going to use the easiest, fastest, and least time consuming way. 

 

Also as I said the problem mostly starts to arise a couple of hours after the server has been up - When the grass and twigs are mostly gone, but there are still SOME trees. So - by this point, the Willows Lighter griefers just keep on burning the trees with the lighter even though the grass and saplings are gone. It continuously gets more detrimental to the server because since there are pretty much no more twigs available to make any tools, players are unable to craft axes and in in turn unable to cut down the masses of charred trees for some pinecones to start replanting.

 

Willows lighter  Especially for continuously burning trees once most of the saplings and grass has been burned by that point and people are trying to replant trees. You just get an instant way to burn them all as soon as you join. And the people who are burning everything are usually just running around burning everything, then leaving after a while. They aren't even trying to actually play on the server - so like I said above - they aren't going to be wasting even a bit of time harvesting twigs and grass when they can start burning from the get-go. 

 

The statement about Willows Lighter having *nothing* to do with the problem is highly indicative of ignorance, you being a griefer and scared of it being addressed/fixed in that it might ruin your "fun", or just plain lack of intelligence. Sorry, but do not post here again unless you have something useful and intelligent to add. Thanks

I hope this thread is locked, since you're just raging and throwing insults. Delannion has actually made similar requests to yours several times. I was going to post something constructive, but your attitude doesn't encourage it.

Honestly when RoG is fully added in, I wouldn't mind seeing new grass/twig tufts (randomly) popping up in the Spring season, if there's > x of either in the world. Alternatively, a way for players to plant them on their own.

Unfortunately, there's more issues that need to be taken care of first before they start adding in mechanics such as those. We'll get there in due time.

Which is why I stated him being a griefer as only 1 of the 3 reasons for his response. I never outright called him a griefer - just sounds like something a greifer would say when they don't want their griefing tool/mechanic nerfed, so I included that as a possibility is all. Sorry but saying Willows lighter has "nothing" to do with the problem? LOL that's just hilarious - Because it can and does start fires. And starting fires and burning things IS the problem. So it does in fact have a lot to do with it. I mostly pointed the lighter out because it's the easiest to get a hold of - You just spawn with it and it never runs out.

 

@Mysanthil hope all you want LOL - Sorry but when someone posts pointless, ignorant and untrue things about an obvious issue >> "Willow's Lighter has nothing to do with the issue" << - I'm going to call them out. I don't care how many posts he's made about the same issue in which he holds the same viewpoint as me if he's going to try to deny one one of (if not the most) main cause of the griefing issue in my post. Obviously the issue starts with the griefing players themselves - but they need to be given the tools to do so. And Willow's Lighter and Torches are the prime examples.

 

Also, I don't really think that calling someone ignorant when what they are saying is ignorant isn't an insult LOL! I guess though, outright calling someone fat if they are is considered fat is an insult so whatever I guess.
