I too missed the mention of portals, having only used the compilation stickies and such. (which do not appear to have this listed) So hopefully I'm not causing angst by bumping this. I am doing it for two reasons. Firstly, because I was just about to make a post similar to this, and so awareness is needed. Secondly I'd like to show my support for this kind of thing so that the devs continue to see interest in a "continued map" mechanic. While this idea is a great deal like mine, it does differ in one or two key aspects.I believe that food should be required as a part of your trip. If you take too little you "die on the open water." Making you have to pack enough food for the journey would tie back into the name of the game, as well as give the desired randomized effect without being totally uncontrollable. If the island was discovered at a close range, you might skirt by with only a little bit.. but what if it was far and you gambled it was closer? For this to work, I'd say the item (w/e it ends up being) should NOT say how far away the new land is. That way it brings in the resource management. Do you sent out early, or stock up enough food to up your odds?A raft is suitable given than you'd likely need some high end knowledge of some sort, but how does this stop people who have researched a bunch before their last revival from leaving quickly? (thus rerolling to keep resources up)I think there needs to be an item or interactive object on each map. The location of which would be completely random and would appear only after so many days, but would give your character the idea that there may be new lands nearby. Otherwise he/she has no notion of a heading.. this would mean a person has to do a little exploring in addition to getting what is needed for the journey/making of the raft. With that said, if the devs still intend for portals, that would be fine too, assuming it requires a measure of effort to use them. As I stated before, part of the reason I am posting is to show further support for continuous play. So to that end I will list some of the reasons I feel it's appropriate to have such a thing.- Many people seem interested in it.- The name of the game is essentially survival.- Allowing for new land opens up new challenges, perhaps even eventually allowing an "indefinite mode" to be unlocked.- It gives the player something to aim for.- Allows for personal pacing and play style.- Competition.. many of my friends who own the game like to "out survive" each other. This adds a new dimension to that, and would allow a player to try and beat their personal best.- In general it expands gameplay
