Sharza
This is my first post on these forums so first off: Hi y'all I really like this game a lot. I find it relaxing to play and at the same time quite challenging at times. I have put about 12 hours into this within 2-3 days (yes I have a lot of free time on my hands at the moment) and have throughly enjoyed my time. 12 hours for the price seems like a fair deal already plus this game is still in development so one can expect there will be quite some more content being added in the near future. The problem I am starting to see with this game though is that as Soon as you have stabilized your "food-income" and explored your world quite a bit there doesn't seem to be a lot left to do anymore since the only real goal to achieve is to survive (for as long as possible). This leaves me in a situation where after about 20-30 days of ingame time I just don't feel like there is much left to do.How could this be fixed, then? I think it would be awesome if there were something to do after that - maybe add more ressources like metal etc. to allow people to gear up with armor and allow them to summon bosses, much like in terraria or make it so that after a certain time people will be attacked from time to time by normal mobs like the... I suppose they are dogs... to put a strain on their ressources. Maybe there should be something like a "hardcore" mode, that becomes unlocked after reaching a certain point or fighting a boss. This could also unlock a third tier of craftables (then also maybe including craftables like health potions etc.) and additionally add items that can be used to fortify your "base".I'm looking forward to hearing your opinions and ideas about this._________________________________________________________________________________There is someone who voices similar concerns here: http://forums.kleientertainment.com/showthread.php?2822-Suggestion-Emergent-Endgame-Challange Edited December 10, 2012 by Sharza Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/3562-suggestion-add-an-endgame/ Share on other sites
mobius187
The problem I am starting to see with this game though is that as Soon as you have stabilized your "food-income" and explored your world quite a bit there doesn't seem to be a lot left to do anymore since the only real goal to achieve is to survive (for as long as possible). This leaves me in a situation where after about 20-30 days of ingame time I just don't feel like there is much left to do.Yes. As you pointed out the game is still in Beta, and truth be told it's also only the first part. The mid-tier and final-tier aspects of the game are still missing, which means that all we can do is play the initial part of the game. Which is mainly resource gathering and surviving. How could this be fixed, then? I think it would be awesome if there were something to do after thatThere will be, but the Devs are always looking for suggestions. ...maybe add more ressources like metal etc. to allow people to gear up with armorI certainly wouldn't be against adding in new ores, as I've supported adding iron ore for some time, and supported another user who suggested using coal and iron ore to create molten steel, which in turn could be poured into a stone crucible and cooled to form new items... steel items. As for armor... in general I'm a skeptic. I've played too many games where the idea of progress was adding some more numbers to an item's durability or defense. I get that this works for RPGs, but I would like to think Don't Starve is a more clever game. As such, I would prefer seeing armors that have new utility functions, rather than just better durability. How about a diving suit that lets you explore underwater (and protects you from sea creatures)? Or a camouflaged suit that let's you pretend you're a bush. I'm just pulling ideas of of the air, but you get the general idea.Another way to differentiate armors would be with penalties. For example, right now the log suit works just fine, but what if wearing it slowed you down? Or you burned indefinitely when attacked by a flame hound? Maybe then hide armor, crafted from beefalo or hound pelts (or pig skins...) might serve as a better option... or maybe it's balanced with less durability than the log suit. Also, why can't you use the log suit to fuel the camp fire? I mean, that should be a cool "last chance" perk if you run out of fuel for your fire. Oh well.allow them to summon bossesI don't know... this reminds me of Terraria.much like in terrariaHaha! This is what happens when you're posting just as you're reading. It always makes me laugh when this happens. make it so that after a certain time people will be attacked from time to time by normal mobs like the... I suppose they are dogs... to put a strain on their ressources.Yup, the hounds were introduced to mix things up and reduce the safety players tended to feel when not endangering themselves. Not to mention the flame hound can combust an entire base camp if you're not careful...Maybe there should be something like a "hardcore" mode, that becomes unlocked after reaching a certain point or fighting a boss. Other players have requested Difficulty modes be included, with some asking because they wanted the game to be harder or easier. I personally wouldn't mind including it and having it available from the start. This could also unlock a third tier of craftables (then also maybe including craftables like health potions etc.)Replace "potion" with "medicinal tonic" and I agree with you. and additionally add items that can be used to fortify your "base".Actually the Devs have hinted they will allow the players to construct walls... so I think that fits your request nicely. If you have any suggestions for new placeables, be sure to discuss them with us.
