Yes on full moons mushtrees can be created from the other trees but it would makes since that they have there own tree seed, If you were to put size as a factor for the don't starve world spores from the mushtree  should be big enough to be held by Wilson and others just have restrictions like you can only place them in darkness and cannot touch surface light or it will dry out and catch fire meaning only in caves can they be planted but the only light to use to keep the gru from spawning is manmade/naturalcave light

I truly think that mushrooms should be able to spread by spores so a group of mushrooms should spread by how many of that type of mushroom is in an area to raise its chance to spawn another of its type like flowers except without the bee but the only time they can spread is when it rains but if klei truly wants to they could add something like the bee or butterfly just make the little animal or bug looks really really creepy that would be cool, and they could take out the rain factor if that method is used

 

off topic but if they want to add an Fx for chopping down mushtrees they could add like spores dropping from under neath the caps of the mushtrees
