So, I had been looking around where the animations were stored for items, and whenever I opened a .zip, there were these two .bin files named anim.bin and build.bin.  I have no idea what these are for, and I've been looking around to see if anyone had an explanation of what they are.  Does anyone know what they do?

(Sorry if this is in the wrong place, since it's my first time here :/)

Well hi, I don't know what it is for real, I just know we need to edit the build.bin of the template mod of a character to make a new character in a mod made from it, and change the tex, the anim.bin is a crypted file read by the software to animate the tex, with the build.bin I guess.

DanaAddams have spoke about it in one of her tuto, using the buildrenamer tool...
Etc...:

I don't think this forum is a programming school, we just try to understand what we need to, to do what we want to, on the Don't Starve game. So I don't think many people will tell you what it is, unless if it's someone that made the game or have seen the "Making of", or else...
So i don't know either, but you should ask what you want to do first, and then talk about what to understand for doing that I think.

Neostatos is right - the anim.bin is an encrypted set of animation data. And it is currently not editable directly.

We can create new animations using Spriter, but if you're trying to alter existing ones, you're out of luck.

As I understand it, this is something that's being worked on, so we may soon be able to convert the anim.bin into a Spriter-compatible format, but... don't hold your breath.

Given that @Cheerio disappeared without any notice, I really don't know if we can count on further tools. Or on the porting of existing ones.

It's the holiday period! I'm sure he'll be back!

Everyone's out of the office until January 6, and there will probably be a bit of catch-up stuff to do when they get back, so I bet we'll see him again around mid-late January. ^^

He disappeared before that. His last post was on November 24th.
