Meat Farming

Recommended Posts

I think the best source of food is spiders. I usually have a bird cage around week 2, and with crockpots and a spider camp nearby your pretty much set for life. You can either cook the monster meat, and give it to the bird for eggs or dry it out for winter situations, since you can also give the jerky to the bird for eggs. 1 Meatballs costs 3 eggs and 1 monster jerky/meat so basically 4 monstermeat with a bird cage. I usually have 2 or 3 camps right by my base camp, with a lureplant inbetween to kill any wandering too close. This is also a great way to collect web, which can be used to make bug nets which will help make bee boxes. After the spider/birdcage farms beeboxes are the next best source of food. I usually have 4-5 bee boxes around week 3-4 with tons of flowers around them, because of the increased spawn rate of honey. 1 monster jerky, 1 egg, 2 honey will make a honey nuggets so this becomes an even cheaper food in terms of labor required in killing mobs. (I also use the bee nice mod with this just because it makes it easier. If you play only vanilla im not sure how good this strategy is.) This is my first out of 2 strategies.

My Second strategy is to make my camp a good distance away from a tallbird. It is best to carry this out at night, or after recently killing the tallbird. Make sure that you have plenty of torches/lantern and then get a-chopping on those trees. Once a treeguard spawns (2 could be better but it doesnt really matter) Lead him over to the bird camp. To escape him, either make sure you are far enough away so hell stop sensing you right around the bird camp, or use pinecones at the bird camp to appeal to him. If you want to put up hay/wood walls to encourage him to stay inside go ahead. The treeguard will stay in the general area of the camp, and once the tallbird spawns every couple of days the treeguard will kill it with ease. This is the first method i ever used in dont starve to automate food production, as it provided me with meat and a tallbird egg (although i think the tallbird may drop monster meat now, could be wrong) . The only problem with this method is that you have to check every couple of days for the food(When i first used this spoilage wasnt in effect P.S. This doesnt matter if your WX)And the treeguard may walk away/die. Otherwise this is a good way for a free tallbird egg without having to waste durability on armor/weapons.

Lastly just some things ive noticed before. A: Leading a spiderqueen into a pigvillage. Not really recommended, but funny if the queen has spawned enough spiders. B:Rocklobster/bunnyman/cavespider/batilisk battle royal. phew wee was this a doozy. 2 bunnymen houses spawned on a spiders nest, in a biome with rocklobsters, in which batilisks also happened to spawn. During the battle no one really cares about what you do, so i just picked up the spoils :D. C: Beefalo VS. EVERYTHING!!!!! When a beefalo is in the heat the kill everything for you, and do not steal/eat your drops. Just find a lone beefalo or two early on and make the hat before mating season. It is also recommended to use houndsteeth for a sewing kit if you think you wont be able to kill another one.
