(What if it was Jacob in the infirmary? Unlikely, but hey.

Also, we never got an answer to what happened to Viti.)

Pops yawned, waking up slowly. He scratched the back of his neck, his energy restored for the most part. He carefully opened the door to his room.

(Joseph had a heart attack too.  Plus he died from blood loss.)

Outside the door, there was no sign of Taggard's "night guard".  There were only a bunch of pigs, running around and doing chores.  There was also a shady-looking fellow with sunken eyes, peering out from another corridor.

The man simply stared at him with dull, uncaring eyes.  After a few moments, he turned around and walked out of sight.

A pig, seeing Pops was awake, ran up to him.  It was the same pig from earlier, Aemelian.  "Hello friend!  Bester friend want you to attend food time.  Over this way!"

"I had a surprisingly good sleep even though i slept on the floor. I've slept on the floor so often it feels more comfortable then the bed." She sits down in the nearest chair that somebody is not already sitting on.

"Shades?"  Baron Taggard chuckled.  "You mean like from fairy tales?  Nope."

He poured himself a glass of dragonfruit juice before continuing.

"By the way...your pupil arrived a short time ago.  He's in the infirmary, being treated."

(EDIT: I gotta stop switching from past tense to present.)

"Yes, it is certainly very appreciated... But his legs were destroyed in a battle against a shade's subordinates. And this particular shade, Shadowfall, plots on bringing all worlds to an end. Including this one. Which also includes, you, me, my companions, and everything here."

Taggard grunts.  "Reminds me of some ancient texts I found in the same ruin I got that orb from.  Strange.  Maybe you're right, but I tend not to trust things until I see them with my own two eyes.  No offense, of course."  He says quickly.

The sound of a ringing bell sounds from an adjoining room.  Taggard's smile resumes as pigs begin to stream in through the door, delicious aromas following close behind.

"I can believe, however, that pigs make a hell of a good meal.  Don't you think?"  The Baron chuckles as the waiters place large platters on the table, full of every food imaginable.  Steak and eggs, assorted fruits, waffles smothered in honey, even an entire roasted turkey.

(Woah calm down there I'm sorrrryyyeeee)

Pops sighs, thinking to himself. If Taggard couldn't be recruited, then they would have to leave as soon as possible... He turned to face Ayasha. "He is a shade bent on destroying all worlds, and everything in it. There are only a handful of days left."
