Jakob manages to beat through the Warden's rib cage, and grabs a shard of bone.  He stabs it into the heart, causing the Warden to cry out in pain.  The tendrils seethe out of the heart, and form a dark portal.  GET TO THE CHOPPA!  Jakob mentally shouts as he wrestles with the Warden.

The Warden throws Jakob off his chest and into a wall, but Jakob manages to grab the chain wrapped around his neck and drag him along.  They continue their struggle, but the Warden is taking a serious beating, as having his head backwards has significantly lowered his visibility level.  Meanwhile, Pops and Joseph reach the portal.

Dark Will pushes past Joseph and Pops, carrying Snowfall on his back. He is visibly panicked. Snowfall is awake, but is silent.

"Get to the portal! Faster! Will- Will's in trouble!"

The group arrives at the portal, which consists of a hole in the ceiling, with a large beam of light penetrating through it. An alter is built around the hole. Rain is pouring through the hole. Violet catches up with the group.

"Rain... never thought I'd see that again."

Violet steps into the light, facing the light, mouth open. The moment she steps fully into the light, she starts to levitate toward the hole.

"Isn't that nice? We don't have to climb out of the hole."

(Sorry for double post.)

Violet fully passes through the hole, to reveal a plain of grass and puddles of water, as the rain pours from the clouds. However, this rain is not the slimy water that plagues the islands. It is genuine, real, rain. Violet walks onto the ground, her real body reforming.

"It's... it's... beautiful..."

Dark Will looks back, and his face contorts in rage.

"DON'T YOU F*****G TOUCH HER!!"

As Pops and Joseph rise out of the hole, they are unable to assist Dark Will. Being right next to the portal, Dark Will grabs Snowfall, and jumps into the beam of light. Dark Will hopes the beam will remove the Warden from Snowfall, but it does not. It simply does not respond to him. Snowfall looks up to see the portal slowing growing smaller. Tears start flowing from her eyes, as Dark Will is mostly in the world of the living.

"Let... go...."

"What!? I will most certainly not let go!"

"The portal... is closing... just let me go..."

"Never! I won't let Shadowfall use your soul for power!"

Snowfall's hand has rising into the surface, but her rising halts. The Warden is countering her ascension, and the portal is nearing the point where Snowfall couldn't escape even if the Warden wasn't there.

"Please, let go!"

"No! Hang on!"

Suddenly, the beam of light into the Soul Trap vanishes. Dark Will is simply hanging on to Snowfall, with nothing to support his grasp. Snowfall's hand begins to slip.

"Let go!"

"NO!"

With that, Snowfall's hand completely slips out of Dark Will's hand. The portal quickly closes, cutting off Snowfall's left pinky. It falls onto the grass without sound. Dark Will falls to his knees, tears running down his face. He slams his hands to the ground, and begins digging rapidly in the false hope that he can catch the portal. When it becomes evident to him that he cannot, he simply falls to his side, curling into a ball. The group simply looks on in shock and mourning.

"I... I couldn't protect you... I couldn't even lift you out of hell..."

(Why is it that I sense a reference.)

The Warden laughs insanely, and hurls Snowfall off the side of the Citadel.  She falls for a very long time before she is finally stopped by a long metallic spike above the Citadel's entrance.  Her body slowly dissolves into silver dust, which spirals upwards into the Vortex and vanishes.

The Warden's victory is short lived, as Jakob attacks from behind, grasping for his heart.  The Warden swings his mace, but Jakob is too close for it to be effective.  Jakob manages to hit the heart a few times, but the Warden kicks him backwards, into the area where his weapon will work against Jakob.  The Forgotten summons a blazing white sword, and the two face eachother for a moment.

"The portal is closed."  The Warden chuckles.  "Whether or not I die, this Citadel will be your eternal tomb!"

Then I shall claim it as my own, Jakob responds, with a deal sealed by your dying heartbeat!

The two charge at eachother.  The Warden swings his mace, but Jakob ducks beneath it and keeps running.  The Warden summons a long thin dagger in his other hand and swipes at Jakob, who parries each slice with years of experience.  The two exchange strike after strike, each almost equally matched in skill.  Finally, Jakob sees an opening, and disarms the Warden.  In the same movement, his hand blasts a fireball at the Warden's face, stunning him.  He leaps onto the Warden's chest, and his hand takes a firm hold on his enemy's heart.  The Warden looks down at him in awe for a few seconds, and in that lull time, Jakob rips out the black, beating heart with all his strength.

The explosion of dark energy that ensues is enough the blow the entire top floor of the Citadel into dust, vaporizing the combatants like sand castles and destroying anyone else near the top.  The structure would have survived, had some of the anchors holding the massive chains had not been broken as well.  These chains were not just for decor; they held the Citadel from being sucked into the Vortex.  As they fall, slicing ravines in the landscape like butter, the entire tower is wrenched out of the ground and pulled into the Vortex.  Already weakened by the destruction of its power source, the storm is burning out the last of its energy, spinning faster and faster.  The Citadel is ripped to shreds, and barely seconds afterward, the Vortex supernovaes, sending a shock wave across the entire Soul Trap.

At Oranihil, Shadowfall feels a wrenching pain in his gut.  Then a massive loss of energy.  He realizes immediately what has happened, and an inhuman shriek of fury escapes from under his hood.  A few of the cages holding prisoners crumple like tin cans, crushing the poor souls within.  With a sweep of his hand, Shadowfall destroys an entire cliffside, raining massive boulders into the shadowy darkness of the Void.

A shade nervously steps forward.  "Sir, what is wrong?"  The demon lord pants, out of breath.  "Shut up and get back to work, fool.  It is nothing more than a minor setback."  But they both know that is a lie.

Everything fades to black as the group's reincarnation is completed.  When they come to, they are back in the underground arena, lying right in the spot they died.  Jakob is nowhere to be found, though his broadsword is driven into the ground where he met his end.

From the scaffolding above, drops the Masked Man. He had followed through with Shadowfall's orders, and had been waiting for the group to return.

Dark Will stumbles backwards.

"No... please, no... We can't kill this person."

Before Dark Will can explain why, the Masked Man slams his sword down onto the ground, and a humongous bolt of lightning knocks out everyone in the group. Except for Violet. She takes a step back in shock, as she looks around at her fallen friends. She looks back at the Masked Man to see he is reaching for his gun. Violet quickly throws a bolt of lightning at the Masked Man, who takes it like it was a small static shock, and Violet hides behind the nearest wall.
