(When your roleplaying character is killed without your consent, it means you're kicked from the roleplay. But then again, Battal wants joiners. So I don't know.)

Pops sighs. "Just keep moving forward, I suppose." He looked around for anything of note, slowly rising to his feet.

[Battal]

Pops notes an arched doorway, but beyond it lies nothing but darkness.  A light would probably be wise before entering such a place.

[Blewcheese]

Pops pointed out the arched doorway to the rest of the group. "Do any of you have some sort of light?"

[Will]

Dark Will rummages through his pack, but pulls his hand out empty.

"Damn it, the chemical lights are gone.. Anyone have any bright ideas?"

[Battal]

(Well, I found something interesting in the book.

 

Those whose souls are swallowed by The Umbra can be forced to do the works of others if the correct ritual is performed.

Might be of use. Of course, Shadowfall could just as easily use him....but what for?)

(HUEHUEHUE)

Pops nodded slowly, looking around. "It shouldn't be too hard to find a flint and stone here. All we need is something flammable and a rod or something, then we can make a torch."

[Battal]

(We are now the longest roleplay on the Klei Forums.  Yay!)

 

Pops finds a mangled skeleton chained to the wall.  A few bits of decaying flesh still dangle off it, though not enough is there to be recognizable.  Lying next to it is a crudely made spear held together by frayed bits of rope.

[Battal]

(Actually, false alarm.  Life on the Islands still outpaces us by one page.  We can do this, people!)

[Blewcheese]

(Woo! Almost there!)

 

Pops surveyed the spear before picking it up. "This should do nicely." He yanks the top of the spear off, and wraps the rope tighter around the handle. "Now all we need is a better source of fire... Any spare cloth, anyone?"

[Battal]

Nobody seems to have any cloth.  However, the dry, rotting skin on the skeleton would probably be quality fuel.

[Percival]

(Skin isn't that bad of a fuel, if it is tanned properly or dried into a brittle clump that acts as tinder.)

[Blewcheese]

(Oh dear. Oh... Oh my.)

Pops sighed. "Alright then. We can use the flesh." He scraped the flesh off the skeleton, wrapping it around the spear shaft by the rope. Then, he grabbed the spear head and hit it against a nearby rock, creating a few sparks and lighting the flesh. "Let's go."

[Percival]

(Skin is a lot more flammable then you think. Why do you think humans are programmed to snap back from excessive heat?)

[Battal]

And so, the smell of burning flesh rising into the air, the group ventures warily into the dark chamber.  It appears to be a torture room of some sort; bloody devices of pain line the walls, and mass filled graves filled with things the group doesn't want to think about dot the floor. 

[Will]

As the group walks through the room, a figure runs right past their clear field of vision.

"What the hell was that?"

[Blewcheese]

Pops shakes his head, trying to brandish the torch in such a way that it lights up the entire area.

"I'm not sure. Just watch our backs. Stay alert."

[Battal]

The group cautiously continues through the chamber, avoiding the torture devices as much as possible.  Along the way, they find new horrors; a pit of burned-out coals with bloody meat hooks hanging over it; crushing machines long since untended; a horrible maligned skeleton, bones twisted around a ship's wheel.
