Remove farms.

Remove crafting of tools. Should only be able to craft low-tier items.

Remove fire pit.

Remove shovel.

Decrease hunger rate. Decrease amount of hunger a food restores to balance.

Or have a varying sweet spot for hunger. If hunger is low, it decreases faster. If it's too high, it decreases slightly faster. Must keep it at a comfortable zone.

Dead trees should be capable of being knocked down by a forceful tackle. Cost of some health (?)

Reduce health. Every wound becomes more fatal.

Increase item carry capacity. Dropping an item should have it disappear. Forces players to consider which items are more important to have, for the day.

(How to explain the item being destroyed? A dark wind blows the item off the island before it reaches the ground, or the earth splits open and eats the item.)

Place tools around the world randomly. Once picked up, another will spawn randomly around the world once night turns into day.

Increase tool durability to compensate.

Map is entirely blank, player must manually mark landmarks on the map. Or remove map entirely.

If map is blank, and player must determine the island size and borders. And landmarks.

If map is removed, forces player to memorise map.

Forces player to constantly scavenge for items, on a day to day basis. With planning, can be from days to days basis.

Disallows player to reallocate renewable resources. i.e. berry bushes, grass, twigs.

Forces player to choose more carefully where to spend the night. Or even the day.

Introduce a balloon drop. Rare chance, but if a being out there takes pity on you, will drop certain item(s) that can save your life. For the time being. i.e. some carrots if you are starving. A fire, if you cannot make one, a first-aid kit if you are bleeding, you get the idea. Or do not implement this.

Cons:

Takes away a lot of the elements of the game.

Does not focus much on the horror aspect of the game.

Hard to return to the game after taking a break from playing.

Must commit self to the game.

Luck becomes a larger factor in gameplay.

Pros:

More focused on survival.

Just some thoughts. Did not think this thoroughly. Will add/remove ideas as necessary later.
