Baark0
Recently I've been trying to use boats with telelocator focuses to act as Varg pens for the purposes of moonstone farming, and my god its been such an awful, aggravating, and annoying experience, and I just need to scream into the void about it. So for starters, I've been forcibly drowned by the game at least 3 times now by one (1!) single varg, because the game for god knows what reason will boot you off of the boat instead of just moving you to the next nearest location. This is single-handedly the number one reason as to why I utterly despise boats, its a little better nowadays since drowning doesn't cause you to lose max hp (unless you're WX, and boy howdy guess who I'm playing), but its still really aggravating, as I just can't fathom why boats work like this. It effectively reduces how much actual building space you have on boats, and its really easy to have kill zones on your boat because you wanted to place sails away from the middle of the boat. "Just place the sails in the middle!". Sure, I could do this, but then half of the boat is hidden behind these massive sails, which is a real issue when you need to click the anchor and steering wheel several seconds in advance, or you crash into one of the 2 billion sea stacks that the ocean is filled with. I swear, the amount of times I've drowned because of a lureplant placed on a boat is significantly higher than the amount of actual enjoyable ocean sailing experiences I've ever had since the ocean was added back in 2019. The ocean also just doesn't even work properly sometimes? It's especially noticeable in the crab king fight, where you'll have random items all sitting on the ocean as if they were lying around on a piece of land. In the varg farm thing I mentioned above, I literally had a varg ascend through the Y axis, and I kid you not, walk all the way over to me, where I killed it in a fit of rage. Some of the hounds being spawned by the varg also decided to just not care about the land and would get stuck walking over the water, which when the moonstone event ended, would leave moonstone statues floating above the ocean. This made the varg moonrock farm nearly entirely useless, as most of the moon rocks would sink in the ocean. Every time I try and interact with the ocean in a new way, I find a new reason to hate it. Boats are way too clunky to control, the ocean is way too big and way too empty, and its taken up a lot of development time that could've otherwise been spent fleshing out the caves or the mainland. I would've preferred if there was a wormhole that took you to lunar island, or if a hidden sinkhole underground would come up on the lunar island. anyways tldr dont try and use the ocean to farm vargs, at least not for the moonstone event. its buggy as hell and is so aggravating ive genuinely been stunlocked for the past half hour just rollingback because im so annoyed at the mechanics at play. 1 Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/172472-my-experience-trying-to-farm-vargs-using-boats/ Share on other sites
logatocassie
Why are you fixated on making the moonstone farm with boats? any specific reason? did the moonstone pedestal spawn in a tiny place? there are many ways to make a Varg based moonstone farm that do no need any boats. like trapping them with status and a gap that only hounds can go thru. its been around for years now... and it works rather flawlessly (Provided it is set up right). 2 Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/172472-my-experience-trying-to-farm-vargs-using-boats/#findComment-1873884 Share on other sites

Wanted to try something new since its not everyday you get a body of water near the moonstone, and the vargs being on boats meant I wouldn't have to deal with random hounds biting walls and potentially freeing the vargs (which is something they do specifically when they lose allegiance to a varg in their attempts to break the moonstone). Also I figured I could just dump all the vargs on one boat since the portation orb fragments don't break after something gets teleported through them. If nothing else it was a good learning experience, as now I know that this method of containing vargs is complete garbage for the purposes of farming moonrocks. Lovens
Sounds like a very frustrating experience. One thing I never understood though is why people make moonrock farms at all. I never had the shortage of moonrock in my worlds and the only source of it was just me meticulously picking up all moonrock and moon glass after each CC fight and storing it away for later. Each CC drops so many that I have infinite stacks sitting in my chests just from farming CC crown shards. Is all of it really not enough so you have to farm the extra supply, or is it just for fun? 1 Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/172472-my-experience-trying-to-farm-vargs-using-boats/#findComment-1873933 Share on other sites

Mainly for moonrock walls to use as decoration. Moonrock walls are pretty expensive costing 4 rocks for 4 walls. CC gives a nice amount of moonrocks, but its a lot less efficient than a properly set up moonrock farm, especially when you can have full moons every night thanks to moonstorms. linabagel
How many Moon Rocks can you obtain at one time? I have always been obtaining Moon Rocks in winter by using Skeleton and Moon Stone, but the quantity obtained in one night is usually only around 40+. I want to look for more methods of this kind. 1 Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/172472-my-experience-trying-to-farm-vargs-using-boats/#findComment-1873950 Share on other sites
