Hi.
i am not suer where I can post this question, so if this is not the right place, I apologize.

I wanted to know about a specific behavior that happens, and what it would do to my fully tamed beefalo.

i have been looking at ways i can 'pause' or place the beefalo in 'stasis' since i end up not using them for long periods of time, and even the salt-lick runs out and i might forget to fix it.

unfortunately, it is impossible to  bundle the beefalo bell.

my current method is to give the bell to another player account of mine, and then log off. and that takes the beefalo out of the game, and puts them in a sort of 'stasis' as nothing changes with them, no matter how long that player is offline with the beefalo for.

but i wanted to find a better method. and i have noticed something odd that happens when i place the bell inside a 'shadow' chest. like the one Maxwell can make, or a shadow-Chester. once the bell is inside the chest, the beefalo remains present in the world, but cannot be mounted anymore, and even starts walking towards the spot he originally spawned in (from before taming).

the moment the bell is taken out of the chest, the beefalo immediately returns, and can be mounted.

does anyone know if this can be used in 'long term' without the beefalo loosing 'tame' status?
and overall, does anyone know exactly what is happening when that bell is in a shadow chest? like 'behind the scenes' sort of speaking, in terms of game mechanic?

Placing in that chest just makes the game think that the beefalo doesnt belong to you, it still loses domestication because it is a tamed beefalo.

Your best bet is still hitching to the beefalo stand thing with a salt lick which keeps them awake. They dont use salt lick when asleep.
