jawbo produce little rust, it takes many jawbos to sustain a single rust deoxidizer. And now they need to be groomed, which will take a lot of dupe time. Maybe double their metabolism? Double the amount of food they eat and the amount of rust they produce. That way you get double the rust without doubling the dupe time grooming them.

For critters that have useful output from eating, you don't actually need to groom them at all. A wild critter can just be given food and you don't have to even tame them.

You only need to tame/groom critters if you want to make the population bigger, or produce extra Meat. You only have to groom 1 breeder to make the population bigger, then once the population is the size you want, a Critter Condo will keep them at +0 Happiness so they eat normally and lay 1 Egg before they die. No dupe labor required after the initial setup.

isn't a wild critter metabolism slower? You would need more of wild jawbos then. Which is not really an issue in terms of resource and time because they are wild but that would lag the game so much lol.

...Wild critters have 25% the metabolism, and thus 25% production speed. Wild critters are terrible for producing any significant amount of materials.

You can't affect wild critter reproduction rate at all, so it would take a looooong time to get such large numbers of them that would actually cause lag.

I think they aren't terrible, they're just slower. Personally I still love to use them because they can be automated away in some secluded corner of the map and never require you to do anything at all ever again. Some critters like for example Oakshells can also produce useful outputs regardless of their metabolism. If you have the discipline to not tame or kill immediately every critter you see, and you take every egg offered from the printer, it's pretty easy to amass good quantities of wild critters over time. Of course this is just my personal preference for a slow playstyle, if you like to be quicker then they're definitely not that useful.
