as I opened the shadow rift in my world, I killed the shadow trio, then killed Ripple. So I had a stack of Pure horror and almost a stack of dreadstone, but only 9 Dark Tatters, so I realized that I had no other way to obtain Dark Tatters, if not for waiting near fissures so the trio could spawn again for another 9.

He could gain the planar defense + 1000 health, and have his summons be altered from(taken from the wiki):

  1. 4 to 6 Ancient Spirits.
  2. 2 to 4 Nightmare Creatures.
  3. 1 to 4 Dragoon Eggs, that leave Lava Pools.
  4. 5 to 20 Poison Dartfrogs in a circle around the player.

to instead summon in the following order, as his health gets lower:

  1. 4 Rasps;
  2. 5 to 10 Frogs;
  3. 4 Jitters;
  4. 3 to 5 Random Nightmare creatures;
  5. 4 Shrieks;

This way, you can reliably get ~36 Dark Tatters if you manage to mow through 9000 health + 3000 from the Herald.

And as drops for the actual boss, the 4~6 tatters, Pure horror and something to be the counterpart to either the Spark ark or even to the items crafted from the Spark arks. But maybe not the Vortex Cloak since it has 100% dmg resist.

So heres some Ideas:

  • Shadow Mitre: A glass cannon version of the Void Cowl, 60%~70% damage reduction + 5 planar defense but with a +10% damage on top of the normal Void Cowl effects;
  • *Vortex Cloak: less defense than the OG, +5 planar defense, now is Infinite storage Backpack + 80* Water resistance, can be refueled with Nightmarefuel/Pure Horror, if reaches 0% it will need a repair kit to be open again;
  • Crimson Cloak: If worn with the Mitre, another 10% damage up. 60%~70% damage reduction + 5 planar defense, Immunity to any debilitating effects, such as: slow, mind control, grogginess, sleep and so on. Taking damage will deal an 25 planar damage around you (similar to the Herald attack);
  • Icky Staff(an upgrade to the Icker bottles): Allows you to attack with(throw) Icker blobs to slow and deal damage over time to targets stuck to it, flying targets will also get stuck if they are hit by the projectile;
  • Apocalypse grim-moire: can be used as a playbill, otherwise, when cast/activated stays on the ground like the Umbralla and makes Everything deal +20% extra damage around it;
  • Mourningstar: A staff made out of dreadstone and other shadow rift items, it can be used as a mace or you can cast it to after a "long" wind up deal a devastating ground slam that leaves the user a little bit dizzy( just so you don't spam it).

And of course, this is only a suggestion so numbers are out of the window.
