Dr.Webber
first entry: nesting behaviors Hello dear reader, as you can see, this is a redo of the first entry in what I hope to be a long exploration into the vast and interesting ecosystems of the constant but I’m sure that’s enough fanfare The first species were tackling is spiders specifically the theoretical inner workings and function of their dens I hope you enjoy my tenuous research What came first the queen or the eggs the answer to such a conundrum I sadly do not know but regardless, it’s a cycle the goal of the species is to spread as much as possible So first the eggs gets planted all 6 spiders (3 main 2 emergency 1 queen) hatch and start to wait for prey to step on their web and alert them to their presence start killing their prey and eating it possibly even having a social stomach or their stomach also doubles as a social stomach to bring food back to the nest as time goes on a dominant spider out of the 6 emerges ether thought dominance alone or an increased diet and a result of the dominance they start developing into a queen and through Arrhenotoky the cluster starts to grow and through increased Silk production so does the den along with some of the new Brood differentiating into a more capable branch this whole time, the queen is preserving energy for the final stage feeding more and more and as the den grows, so does the queen and as she reaches the final stage?she leaves behind a group of her offspring, possibly even her siblings. My reason for thinking that this isn’t just for an example , the den will reach its second stage in one IRL minute, which is much shorter then it takes for most dens to reach the second stage which Suggests to me a larger group of spiders that just need a little bit to get their footing After such dramatic change, And if it doesn’t already have a dominant spider(second most dominant previously till the queen left) then one will arise anyway back to the queen, she’s also able to produce offspring as protection during this vital time (I don’t know if it’s because she’s birthing them like the wiki says and maybe the ones from the forge are just under developed, she’s carrying some as the next stage of the den, or some other reason) she wonders for days in hopes to find an area with no dens or other spider queens you see the reason why she needed so much energy is it takes a lot of energy to maintain this larger form after so many days if the conditions are met she sheds this larger form in favor of the smaller one.and the cycle begins again, It’s even possible that another one of the members of the new den could surpass him in dominance Second entry: spider anatomy The spider gland is a parotid gland the queen has 2(I suspect so does Webber sense humans have 2 parotid glands) they’re nocturnal I assume they have partial night vision(although the Webber doesn’t have it I hope that gets added to his skin tree) As Maxwell(likely their creator) points out they're mostly digestive system they produce silk from their mouths instead of from their posterior (evidence of which is the spitter spider’s attack as well as Wagstaff’s quote for them and the fact that Webber grows a silk beard) Speaking of their mouths it’s closer to that of a mammals despite them being arachnids How did the three pairs of legs they have their front pair are like arms (also side note I don’t know if he meant spiders in particular but he said creatures in the constant evolve at a alarming rate when inspecting dangling depth dwellers and with the addition of switcherdoodles it could mean spiders are especially prone to mutation ) Third entry: signs of intelligence As seen in Wurt’s introductory short, spiders are capable of hand signals It’s long been speculated that some of Webber‘s quotes are said by the spider half and personally I don’t know which ones are but one thing that confirms that spider can talk given the right vocal chords is the fact that Weber has two separate stories he can tell on the little bit of drama stage Also, they enjoy decorations enough to be pacified by them Spider Queens are able to psionic control they’re brood and considering you’re able to use their heads afterwards to get a certain amount of unrelated spiders seems it applies to all spiders(although the control must not be that strong because we can feed spiders with meat and if he were to fight a spider queen they don’t turn on him) Edited April 18 by Dr.Webber 1 1 Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/170730-constant-ecology-revisited-spiders/ Share on other sites
