Arcanemoon
The Devs have done such a great job with the direction they're taking the Gamma circuits - regardless of balance (easily adjustable), the idea of new and old abilities being added to WX's kit allows for a lot more skill expression, playstyles, and just fun gameplay. Others have suggested using the charge meter, so I wanted to suggest something similar that I think aligns with what the Devs might be going for and (hopefully?) reasonable to implement: A Gamma Meter that powers the active-ability Gamma circuits. The Spin-Cycle ability already has kind of an innate invisible meter - as other posters have shown it 'recharges' at an increasing rate to allow up to 8 seconds of spin-to-win, with an effective 4 second 'cooldown.' Jazzy suggested this be a meter so the player can monitor this to avoid dizziness - if this were tied to the Gamma meter it would do that and allow us to tie-in the other abilities in a fun way that could be balanced/customized further with circuits (maybe 2x of the same circuit reduces 'Gamma meter cost'), and talents (possibilities for 'bigger Gamma meter' or 'reduced cost' or 'Gamma meter recharge rate, etc.). A common resource like this does a few things: Gives control to the player to decide how to spend this resource - it's active gameplay with cycles of ability-use and 'recharge' (dizziness is how we're achieving this now, and I think it can stay - maybe the player is allowed to overextend their meter by a second or two, have the meter pulse/flash red, and incur the dizziness as a penalty for overdriving our poor robot with a short CD before regen can start again). Gives another way to balance/customize WX further - the bar's size and regen can be tweaked, and as mentioned above bonuses can be applied to provide more player customization (talents, stacking circuits, etc.). There's even further room with this to allow players to express themselves more as tanks, AoE, crowd control/support, etc. This may address things that are hard to 'see' - Spin-Cycle cooldown/regen, Block Cooldown/use, etc. It may allow more natural tweaking along with visual clarity of resources/abilities - if block is tied to the bar, maybe it drains very slowly when in block-stance (maybe it ramps up so it rewards 'perfect' blocking), perhaps each hit drains the meter based on the damage taken, maybe successive big-hit blocks compounds it, etc. Having this be very visual is powerful for both experienced and new players! Each Gamma circuit can have it's own rate of consumption and balanced separately in that way - and having a common resource means there's less fear of giving too much 'power' since there's an absolute limit for all abilities. Having it not tied to the general charge makes it less cumbersome and a separate system to engage in, especially for new players (I liked the idea of using the charge meter for things, but I think it might be very frustrating gameplay for players to continually gain/lose Alpha/Beta circuit functionality). This would be reminiscent of Wigfrid's inspiration meter - I actually really enjoyed the idea and wished there were more uses of active things for Wigfrid, so thought this might be a natural extension/chance for WX to inherit some of that (and perhaps the code/implementation can be inherited to save on Development time)! Anyhow, sorry for the long post for a simple variation of an idea - just love to see the engagement and cool new gameplay that is being released, allowing us all to revisit the Constant in a fresh and fun way! Thanks for reading and a huge thanks to the Dev team for all the work and passion! 3 Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/170594-a-gamma-meter-might-be-the-solution-to-all-our-robot-problems/ Share on other sites
