it will not appear in the top of new mods or lastly updated, which i feel is the main way a lot of people search for them.
i did the same by posting a mod that was private for a couple of months and to try boost it up i did a tactical update, let's say.
if you care about it's visibility, i'd say to keep the old one as a private backup/beta testings and publish a brand new one + one tactical update, so it pops up both by new and last updated. but if your main goal is to just put something fun/interesting out there and let it grow organically, you can also do that.
also, while it might not be much, i'd suggest putting tags in the mod (like tweak, character, environment, ecc...), as it at least might help in that regard, since some people might look for interesting characters to play by using that tag
