Warbot/Scion Misadventure

I had started up a new world several months ago on wigfrid with the goal of building a nice relaxing underground base. I usually lag behind DST content pretty badly due to work, so I figured I'd get to the warbot/scion eventually. I set up a little barnacle farm (later a large barnacle farm),built a nice mediocre archaic boat (above) explored the world, the usual. Around the autumn of the 6th year or so, having had moonstorms on for way too long than was enjoyable, which is to say basically any time at all, I decided I should clear out CC for the second time (it was a relaxing pace, okay!. Having run out of antlers, as winter came I searched for more no eyed deer, and while wandering around, decided that seeing as I finally had another enlightened shard, I should go ahead and make that WARBIS armor and do that warbot/scion that I had been putting off.

 

I don't do betas, so I had no personal knowledge what the fight or prep was like, but the youtube fights and forums made it sound pretty simple. I was caught offguard by some of the prep since I hadn't been paying much attention (mandatory 5/1 split of warbot drones instead of 6 was the main one). I set about clearing the island, building the island, and vaguely wondering if the pengulls ground ice would get in the way (it didn't, mostly).

 

I had picked winter because I was generally aware that freezing would avoid some sort of missile attack from warbot, but there were about 6 days left, and spring rain would be a pain. I decided to bring charged spear, brightshade staff, and gloomerang, along with the warbis body/ecrown for warbot, and brightside set for scion. I had some heat fish, but wasn't really sure if I would have time to swap them midfight on scion to avoid them dying (as it turns out: not really, and if I'd brought more damage it wouldn't have been an issue). I also made like 15 mushy cakes and various healing foods (barnacle linguini, figkabobs, and a few stale banana daiquiris).

 

I made a rollback save after celestial revenant, and popped warbot. This save got a lot of use, because I could absolutely not figure out the timing on dodging warbot's jump attack. Eventually I just used the spear dash to get away every time. Brightshade staff killed the one terramite, and after way too long (and way too much punished greed) I took out warbot. There were about 2 days of winter left. 

 

During some of the early warbot fights I noticed my boat had sunk. I had parked it too near the island and I think the barrier damaged it, so I pushed it back and hopped back. I had brought my beefalo because...I don't know why. It seemed like a good idea at the time, rather than leaving it safely at base.

 

Celestial scion popped and I realized that I actually had to kill this thing before rain comes. I also realized as I went through scion that going slowly was going to generate way too much corrupted space, but I also didn't quite appreciate how much damage reduction I could stack. So after about ... let's say 10 tries,and getting annoyed with timing the stomp (and many dashes through it which still resulted in taking damage), I rolled back to pre warbot and remembered the lazy explorer.

Anyway, teleports let me control space a lot easier, and I got a healthy reminder for why shorter fights are better. That said, gloomeranging on corrupted space while chugging food and watching the scion fruitlessly stomp over and over again was pretty fun. Great fight.

 

Midway through what turned out to be my last scion run, I noticed that my beefalo was running around on corrupted space and dying. That's weird, I thought. How did it get off the boat?

 

 

I'm not actually sure what happened, but I didn't roll back. It felt oddly satisfying. Right up until I remembered that my ice breams had been stored on the ship as well...

 

Great fights, they got me a lot more optimistic about DST's combat direction than I had been in a while.
