Not at all; my only issue is that it was stated that fishing lacks depth in complexity

The farm also lacks this, but I'm not referring here to the desire to re-rework the farm.
Or any other resource sources.

It's not even complexity that I am on about.

It's the variety of the end fish.

Why would you catch a mudfish instead of a catfish?
There is no reason, they are virtually the same.
Both mudfish and catfish just give 1 large fish (or more).

Meanwhile in farming even a tomato is different than a potato in uses.

There is no reason to chase catfish IN PARTICULAR

difference between potato and tomato is that there just differend food...fish is fish...i dont see realy a difference between them as long there not poisonous

you are starting to get it

Fishing is fine as is. Maybe it could be a bit increased the maximum catch for the effort.

What's needed is for the fish you catch to be more than just "Raw Fish." I posted about that previously, I'll quote from that.

I would really like to have something like a "biotope" where I could stock fish, plant seaweed, and place Sea Stack or something, for profit and aesthetic.

There are plenty of kinds of Ocean fishes, but aside from Spittlefish, Scorching Sunfish, and Ice Bream, they all end up as nothing more than generic cooking ingredients.

Remember the glorious Cutlass Supreme from Shipwrecked? It was worth traveling the world of Shipwrecked and hunting Swordfish just for it. And each tropical fish in Shipwrecked granted its own buff and the Tropical Bouillabaisse was a fantastic dish that let you gain all of those buffs at once.

So why don’t DST’s Ocean fish work like that? If each ocean fish had a unique use, ocean fishing and sailing would be a lot more fun. In particular, since Sweetish Fish has a quote about flavor, make it be able to the unique dish would add a lot of immersion.

I think at least Sweetish Fish should be able to act as a sweetener, as can be seen from the characters' checking lines.

Now let's take a look at what fishing in other games can bring:
In minecraft, terraria, core-keeper and Stardew-Valley, you can not only obtain wonderful treasures through fishing, but almost always there are several kinds of fish with special potions.

By the way, except for terraria, we can all make fish tanks for ornamental fish; and except for Stardew-Valley, we don't need any special fishing mini-games for fishing. Moreover, even the fishing mini-game of Stardew-Valley is more efficient than the sea fishing of dst, and rewards of different levels will be given according to the performance of players.
But in fact, a similar mechanism already exists in dst: Freshwater Fish has a unique manufacturing recipe, and Eel has a unique cooking recipe (although their influence is relatively small at present), which might indeed be a relatively feasible direction.
(Charged catfish and venomous lionfish?)"

My point is outside the raw fish end product.

More on uses for having a live Mudfish for instance.

And more interesting and intuitive way to communicate with the bait system so that you can capture a particular fish.

In farming you can target specific crops by using their specific seeds.

I think the "biotope" will work well about that. First, go to the Swell Ocean and catch Mudfish, release them into the biotope, feed them food for Mudfish. Then Mudfish will reproduce in biotope. Furthermore, if you place somethings that Mudfish like, they will reproduce more efficiently.

About special uses could Mudfish, For example, they could be used in special dishes, or to promote the growth of plant-based resource sources in the biotope, or crafted into a wide-range hoe?

In stardew valley (the steam game and the boardgame), you had quests to fulfill with specific fish from specific areas.

Even if the fish themselves don't differ functionally, maybe some other system in the game cares for Mudfish specifically. Like pearl giving you a quest, that she craves Mudfish.

Just one idea, but the point is the ability to become full time fisherman, and your knowledge of the fishing system to matter.
