I haven’t played the beta but from what I saw, finding the whirlpool might take a while. So what if whenever an astral detector is in a large area around the whirlpool, it’d point towards that direction.

An astral detector on neutral mode would detect it immediately and point towards it. It wouldn’t affect land astral detectors so people who use them there don’t have to worry about it. It’m not sure what range it should be detected at.

Or maybe you can add pure brilliance or something else like a spark ark with a spark and just lose the spark upon upgrading the astral detector. I’m not sure how it would go but the basic idea is that the astral detector would gain another use and make finding the giant whirlpool much easier.

Is the whirlpool lunar aligned? Doesn't make sense if it isn't.

Haven't experienced this beta personally, but I'm under the assumption that it's shadow content.

Maybe Pearl can warn you about it, but it's also okay to just have to explore in a game sometimes.

The whirlpool leads to another archive like place which is lunar aligned as the quotes there seem to be about worshiping Alter. Not sure what it’ll be about but as the ocean can be large and there doesn’t seem to be any current methods of finding it without luck in sailing, it seems helpful to those who rush the game or can’t stand sailing for long.

Not sure how the astral detector exactly but if it can detect lunar alters, why not have it detect something that also needs finding.

Who cares about who rush the game, the game is not built for that. What we should care is this

The second about Atrium, is to pointing out the same things for the whirlpool. The generation is far more important and this whirlpool must be inside or near Lunar Island.

Not you it seems but there are other people who do. And this suggestion isn’t just for speed running the game but also to act as a guide like using the astral detector to find Crab King.

I’m fine with the whirlpool being anywhere in the ocean so long as there’s a way to find it.

I rush too. What my answer implied about it is to not build things based on that. I know that you said as a little perk aside or consideration.

I'm not and there are objective points on why it shouldn't be the way it is now and hope Klei fixes it soon in this long update arc.

Tbh your reply made it seem you didn’t care about my idea and just intruded my topic with another somewhat unrelated topic.

Okay. Could you share your objective points?

Sure.

First I don't think it's that of unrelated topic when your discussion is about not finding well the new whirlpool and having a method for it, therefore instead of searching for a quick band-aid solution (if you don't know what band-aid fix means in videogames, I highly suggest to search it) we can really solve the problem at the root, by simply implementing in the generation the giant whirlpool near Lunar Island or inside at the centre with a water hole. Very easy, very related to the topic since you don't care where the whirlpool is, just care for a way to finding out. And about that.

You think it's fine for the giant whirlpool being anywhere in the ocean, but in reality it's NOT and the problem goes even deeper. Klei is meddling with Lunar and Ruins generation, by adding and adding and adding new stuff on top of each other, without thinking of their consequences and repercussions.

This will influence level design and how things will generate, exploration, difficulty, game design, balance, reward and new player experience (which I care very deeply and I already gave you a little bit more in-depth in those posts). The goal here is to make game better, not about whose idea is better than another. We're all in the same boat, that Klei is strangely neglecting in some parts. It's not that I don't care your idea, and I'm sorry if I rubbed you the wrong way by being quick and sharp or by posting those two posts that thought could help you.

I will soon post more about this whirlpool and the Ruins generation in another post, after the update release (which is now). So stay tuned and I will notify you in case.

I'm sorry about the speedrun thing. I don't have problems with cute neat little secrets that only good players can do, and that's objectively good (an example is a discussion happened months ago about a secret tecnique to summon bearger first autumn, only doable by expert players). I panicked because sometimes ideas and feedback pushed with the mentality of "I want to skip things or make them faster" could have real hard repercussions to the game and I repeat, I know it wasn't your intention. I thought to wrote it down immediately " Who cares about who rush the game, the game is not built for that. " to make a point. I'm sorry for that.

I said somewhat unrelated because it seemed like you were trying to promote your post about ruins/atrium generation while also saying that the whirlpool HAS to be on lunar island without any reasons listed, on a simpler topic about adding to the current feature. It had a bit about the whirlpool but you being dismissive of my idea and making little effort to explain it more made it seem you didn’t listen to it and just added your own post. I don’t think you meant that but at first it seemed like that.

Why wouldn’t simply adding what I suggested fix the problem of finding it any better? Plus it could be a bit more interesting than simply returning to a previous location, while not endlessly sailing just to miss it.

If klei thinks it’s better to have it near lunar island then okay, but I’m still fine if it stays the same and kinda prefer it that way.

What consequences? I’m not familiar with what you mean here. And is this part talking about the whirlpool or ruins generation?

Okay.

i wish Gestalts could haunt a boat tbh, to commandeer the vessel and force it to go to and through the Whirlpool, like a reverse Wavey Jones

That sounds awesome. I want Gestalt Boats.

---snip---

Here, as I promised

(Just skip for the last section of the whirlpool, if you want)

But if you want even more reasons, the fact that the whirlpool brings you to the Lunar Grotto, it's what we've been asking for years as a connection/shortcut from the Lunar Island, and probably why Klei implemented it by listening to us, but they did it in their own way, by just piling content on top of each other. This has consequences. Leaving it random in the ocean doesn't make sense for its purpose and that's why also the astral detector thing would be redunant if the whirlpool should be near Lunar Island, fixing all our problems.

Then, apparentely, all the surface and Caves are linked in the world generation. Don't ask me why and how, ask modders or others whom during this beta gave us pretty interesting information in how don't starve generates in clusters

Then again new player experience and design, but I think I'm repeating myself from the post.

If it was meant to be a short cut from the lunar island to lunar grotto then wouldn’t it have been on lunar island from the start?

Yes, and all the point is explaining how Klei did the mistake. They very often adds new content at random in the game, without slowing down and thinking twice what it could impact previously (balance), especially if it is world gen. It's literally their only flaw. They're very great otherwise.

TBH I’m unsure what to respond with to this. I feel like there can be made some counter arguments to some of the points you’ve made, but I’d rather stop at here as the beta is over and feel this might not lead to much change in our ideas.

Remember.

Not all the things you read or interact on the internet must be a battle. In fact I'm ready and very open minded, If you have some counter arguments and found some holes in my discussion, with logic and objectivity. I'll change immediately and try to find another solution. I like also discuss very much.

I don't care if my ideas go to the game or not, I care for one and one only thing, the betterment (balance) of the game. You can check my profile and all my history how I changed sometimes and helped and pushed even other people ideas directly to Klei, because they were indeed good and could finally fix or balance something.

I'm always here with open arms.
