When I first played the beta I noticed that the waymark and lazy deserter have the same animation when being used. I think it would be a nice change if the lazy deserter can be used like the waymark as to make them more usable and available for solo players.

I can't agree with implementing that as is. It would eliminate the synergy of having one map teleport character in the party.

Even if it was to introduce it, it would need to make working only solo play, with only one character allowed at a time, and Lazy Deserters around that character or even around the world going on cooldown.

I have to disagree with this suggestion. Introducing an easy, universal solo-teleportation method would significantly devalue several existing game mechanics and character identities.

Specifically, it would:

Make the Beefalo obsolete for long-distance travel, which is one of their primary late-game utilities.

Undermine the unique kit of characters like Wortox , Winona, and Wanda , whose powerful mobility is a core part of their balance and appeal.

If a universal solo-teleportation method is to be added, it should be a true end-game reward—something earned after defeating major bosses like the Celestial Champion or Ancient Fuelweaver.

I think the Teleportation Tower Upgrade Kit could be introduced as one of the new Shadow Storyline rewards, allowing players to upgrade the original teleportation towers.

As long as the usage cost and acquisition timing of this item are properly controlled, it should be balanced. By the time the main storyline is nearly complete, other characters could be allowed to use this teleportation method—though it should incur a higher single-use cost compared to the three innate teleportation characters' abilities. In saves with thousands of days, teleportation capability becomes far more critical than resource gathering or combat prowess. These three teleportation characters already account for nearly 80% of player choices in such long-term worlds.

If the cost per teleportation is properly balanced, beefalo will not become obsolete for short-distance travel—players will choose between beefalo and teleportation based on cost and distance. Additionally, beefalo's damage resistance ensures they remain relevant in daily combat scenarios. The fact that many long-term save players still choose to tame beefalo even when playing as Wanda or Winona is clear proof of this.

Nah most characters use beefalos for dmg like maxwell wendy etc so i would not worry about it so much. Just make the crafting with extra steps or lock it behind new endgame boss and problem solved.

Teleporting using only the Lazy Deserter will have a major impact on the game. Taming beefalos and using some characters because of the teleportation would become meaningless. Defeating Frostjaw would also become obsolete. The Lazy Deserter would be even more powerful than coffee on the DS.

It just needs an appropriate cost. It could lower your max sanity to ready the teleport. You get the max sanity back once you use it.

Maybe you can have two ready at once so you can take a return trip, but you'll be dangerously close to insanity for most characters.

Character insanity is one of the easiest things to fix in this game. The food system is OP, and there's even a bone helm that nullifies any insanity effects. There's also the new crown that prevents you from going insane with the 5 jewels.

Saying that deserter working for singleplayer would break dst is like going back in time to 2021 and saying that mushroom lights giving infinite light with enlightened shards is op because you will no longer use star caller staves and lanterns

It's fine if it's optimized for only single player, but I think it certainly breaks the game when it works in multiplayer too. Map teleport is a big deal as much become a character concept of Wortox.

Mushroom lights already had infinite light before this. I don't remember this discussion in 2021 (I missed these topics)

Teleporting through Desert Stone literally costs an egg. It's the cheapest teleport in the game. The problem is that it can only be used in multiplayer. I'll wait to see if the devs change this and how.

but the setup itself needs to wait for summer + orange gems
and it cant connect between shards, unlike wanda
making it so the map opens when you focus on a deserter and then let you click on another deserter to tp to it wouldnt break anything really, it would just be lategame qol

So what? It's a single teleport that you have prepare in advance. You're probably going to waste sanity food because you might not have much leeway between your new cap and insanity. Let's also not pretend it's hard to get purple gems (esp. w/ boulderbough now) by the time you get those two items (though telepoofing doesn't work in caves).

Not going to worry about late and post-game items to balance a mid-game teleport inferior to what Winona and Wanda get. I assume lowering max sanity would also make you enlighten easier.

maxwell, and wurt are the ones that use them for nullifying damage to themselves as well as not having to participate in fighting at all

wendy and wes are ones that use it for damage as beefalo does more

other characters dont need beefalo for more damage cuz just wearing armor and attacking normally with a good weaapon is better, so taming a rider beef is mostly what they go for for mobility. doesnt mean that its not an ok option to reduce on costs of making armor but the alternative of improving inventory management and using various equipments is a better option for me, even as characters like wendy

maxwell can have full fuel weaver set with the shadow thurible to max dmg from shadow warriors. Together with beefalo when he attacs shadows attacs are more frequent.

Is the first year of the game late game? Then Wanda is super late game, because in the first winter she can barely make a few teleportation clocks. I would easily trade Walrus Tusk for orange gems. Orange gems are produced in absurd quantities in the new biome and all you need is defeating AFW, which can easily be done before the first summer.

I only used 30 seeds from the new tree and in a few days I have this absurd amount of gems. If I had used all 80 seeds then... Orange gems are one of the easiest resources in the game right now.

It's also worth remembering that the players can create the world to start in summer or, to make things easier, start in spring. They can also enable rifts in the world settings. This "late game" is easily eliminated using Klei's own rules.

change the cost to 10 orange gems if its so necessary, but i still believe it should be accesed by all characters, multiplayer can do it, wanda can do it, wortox and winona can do it, its not going to break anything no matter how you look into it, these characters still hace their kits

i doubt klei is ever going to do this however

Yes, post-AFW is late game regardless of how fast you can pull it off. That's why it's called rushing. Regardless, the deserter blueprint and desert stones are locked to summer. Your gems are useless.

(It's like asking if the first 5 minutes is late game for Super Mario Bros. Depends, but seeing the credits roll is a dead giveaway.)

You can also start in Winter and crank up the MacTusks for Wanda. Self-defeating argument.

Yes, I can get 35 Walrus Tusk in the first winter. I see that you play as Wanda too, contrary to the wiki theorists.

But don't be fooled. I'm bringing these counterpoints to the attention of the developers, not you. They look at the topics and weigh the pros and cons. They might even nerf gem production based on what I've shown.

But if you set the world to permanent winter, it never has to end!

Why do you need 35 by first winter? Because that's the yield of orange gems you got from boulderboughs with rifts active? It's utterly irrelevant, to say nothing of the other restrictions like needing to protect deserters from earthquakes.

Not the topic of the thread. I found a different one where you can...

Just noting that in regular gameplay, the player must defeat AFW and travel to the new biome within a specific timeframe (shadow rifts). For me to leave my base and travel to a sinkhole near the new biome (which could be on the other side of the map from my surface base) has to be worth all this effort. In the current beta, I think it's worth it, but depending on what Klei might change, I'll simply ignore it.

Oh. I see your Depths of Duplicity. You're just trolling aren't you?

It's no use, man. You're failing to convince the devs. Or do you just want to win the debate against me? It's pathetic, man.
