Mega Blight does not aggress toward players, even when attacked (this is one of the most innovative creature mechanics in recent years—please do not change this). Instead, it is attracted to and consumes miasma. For players to gain rewards from it, they must encourage it to consume as much miasma as possible to grow, then lure it to collide with Boulderboughs to break its defense and defeat it.

However, in practice, players have very limited means to guide Mega Blight's movement. It often enters enclosed room areas (as shown in the attached image), consumes all the miasma there, and destroys all Fumaroles. Since no new miasma generates in such rooms, Mega Blight ends up circling aimlessly inside, struggling to exit and find new miasma sources.

Moreover, due to the unresolved body segment loading bug, the Mega Blight may become stuck and immobilized when too far from the player. Therefore, providing a means to guide its movement would make it a truly perfect design.

Proposed Solution:
When players use Pure Horror as fuel for the Shadow Thurible, it enters a "Pure Burn" state for a limited duration. This duration does not stack; each addition of Pure Horror resets the timer.

Effects of "Pure Burn":

  1. While held, generates a cloud of miasma at regular intervals (approximately every 20 seconds).
  2. Emits a dark light similar to the Lantern's radius.
  3. Equipping it causes a moderate sanity drain.

Summary:
This solution serves a dual purpose:

  1. It provides additional guidance mechanics for Mega Blight without altering its existing engaging behavior.
  2. It increases the utility and usage rate of the currently underutilized Shadow Thurible.

This design preserves Mega Blight's unique non-aggressive mechanics while addressing player frustration regarding its mobility limitations.

Can't agree more. I'm really tired of those simple mobs that only know wander and kill.

Perhaps we could use Icker Jar. Icker is some kind of condensed miasma. It would be interesting if we had a way to restore them to miasma. Just make sure to get those empty bottle back.

Mega Blight’s current design is really innovative and fun, but it really needs better guidance options. The Pure Horror Thurible idea is brilliant since it gives players more agency without making the fight feel forced.

I’d also like to add one thing: while we’re talking about miasma-related gear, it would be amazing if the Void Cowl offered full immunity to miasma slowdown (and maybe vision/sanity drain too). Right now, the Brightshade Helm completely outshines it in miasma zones—it negates slowdown and vision loss, and with a bit of healing, you’re all set. Meanwhile, the Void Cowl—which is supposed to be this epic shadow-tier armor—only stops health drain and does nothing against the annoying movement/vision debuffs. It just doesn’t feel right for an endgame item.

Giving the Void Cowl (or maybe even the Thurible in "Pure Burn" mode) some kind of miasma resistance would make shadow gear more viable and add even more synergy to your already awesome idea.

Great post—really hope the devs see this!

Plus, making the Shadow Thurible emit light has always been a dream of mine! The first time I saw it, I thought it looked just like a lantern—only to be super disappointed when it turned out to just have a few shadow sparks. Besides luring AFW's skeletons, it's pretty much useless. If it could become a proper handheld light, it would finally have a permanent spot in my inventory, even in the late game!
