I had made a similar concept before to the boulder tree to try encourage exploring by having a “plant” which gives different minerals depending on the biome it’s in.

in my interpretation it was a sprout mole which would plant itself in the ground, giving minerals depending on the biome when you pluck it out.

 

I really like Klei adding something like this because I like all resource farms not being all located at base.

 

Also maybe make the rate they grow different depending on the biome, they are too op in some biomes.
