"Failed to assign item skin ids due to ownership check failure."

Since last update the same "error" keeps popping up at my dedicated public server, an error that I have never seen before. The server has been crashing constantly, and I'm wondering if it's due to this error. There's no errors in logs before the server shuts down and disconnects. The only thing that's right before crash, is this error, and it only happens in cave shard.

Can anyone tell me what this might be? And how to fix it?

I've moved my server to a different IP already, and also renewed the token. I cleaned up a lot of items that might cause issues, too. 
Server uses no (server) mods, and has default settings of Survival mode (only without death timer).

The only thing that comes to my mind is that there's a character on your caves map that has a skin, which either doesn't exist anymore (scrapped or sold) or there is a account that doesn't exist anymore/can't be found.

No idea why that would crash your server though.
Does the same happen with a fresh world?

Hey, thanks! I can't check on fresh world right now, because my server runs for a week. I'll try to find out if this keeps popping up next Friday when the server regenerates.

@konijnenmoed The error there is for players trying to use skins they do not have the crash would be unrelated. Do you have a log file and if the server crashed from the engine side a dmp file if hosting on Windows?

Crash was eventually the other thing I reported, so not related to this issue.

 

The error with the skin does still pop up now and then, I'm trying to find out who might be causing it. How would somebody be able to use a skin they don't have tho? Could this be because of it being reskinned by Clean Sweep, or something else?

A player loading into a world with a prior saved character that had skins applied that no longer are owned or people trying to use skins they do not own or a communication error to the backend item server making the server be unable to verify ownerships it will temporarily prevent it.
