Pet Rock Posted July 27, 2025 Share Posted July 27, 2025 (edited) I think the new lunar hail is a big step in the right direction, but I do have some suggestions on how to improve it more (although I am aware everything is unfinished and subject to change anyway): Reintroduce falling moon shards: Falling moon shards and charged moon shards weren't all that great in terms of providing new challenge, but they do give players a chance to actually pick what resource they want to collect instead of leaving it up to luck and make lunar hail more imposing (even if it isn't truly dangerous. Perhaps they could fall at half the rate as they used to to make space for the new additions? Expand bright-beaked birds: -Bright-beaked birds should have a chance to replace other birds after the first lunar hail, always replacing them during lunar hail. This would show the impact that the hail has on the world. -Dead birds can occasionally fall from the sky during lunar hail (outside of the event). The event itself should be rarer (every 3rd lunar hail?) but spawn more birds. This way the event is more of a surprise instead of the norm. -Birds (and frogs) should have a small chance to be possessed on death. Improve Vfx and Sfx: -Add the noises that falling moon shards make into the background ambience during lunar hail. I really like the "clinking" noises that the moon shards make and am missing that in the new beta. -Trees/Rocks/Structures covered in moon shards should make the same clinking noise when they are chopped/mined/hammered. Some moon shard particles when resources are finally destroyed would also be nice. -Some large creatures (Beefalo, Tree Guard, other giants) should at least visually be covered with moon shards during lunar hail. Bonus if it's a new game mechanic and creatures covered in moon shards are weakened/slowed. Other Nitpicks: -Mining rocks and other resources that can be mined with a pickaxe requires players to clear them beforehand (unlike any other resources). I'm not sure if this is worth changing but it is worth noting.
