There are plenty of kinds of Ocean fishes, but aside from Spittlefish, Scorching Sunfish, and Ice Bream, they all end up as nothing more than generic cooking ingredients.

Remember the glorious Cutlass Supreme from Shipwrecked? It was worth traveling the world of Shipwrecked and hunting Swordfish just for it. And each tropical fish in Shipwrecked granted its own buff and the Tropical Bouillabaisse was a fantastic dish that let you gain all of those buffs at once.

So why don’t DST’s Ocean fish work like that? If each ocean fish had a unique use, ocean fishing and sailing would be a lot more fun. In particular, since Sweetish Fish has a quote about flavor, make it be able to the unique dish would add a lot of immersion.

I'd love hear your ideas for what crafts and dishes can make using  ocean fish.

Did you mean by traveling is finding a random spawn of this fish at the beginning of the game and getting the best weapons in the game every few days?

I'm not sure what you mean by the question, but it includes not only right at the beginning of the game, but also using Seaworthy to travel to the Shipwrecked world.

I support this suggestion. Why not post in the subform that's dedicated to suggestions? Might get more support there.

Maybe so, but I'd also like to see ideas to use Ocean Fish for. There aren't many people in suggestions...

what I don't understand is why the sweetish fish is infact not sweet and does nothing sweet related at all

Yes, there should be unique dishes that make use of these design. Actually sweet fish dishes like お煮付け or 糖醋魚 do exist. And also Zelda:BotW have a dish could make using fish and honey.

The fish spawner in DST is very random and untraceable (except for one). It makes the ocean more interesting.
And in Shipwrecked, finding swordfish is just a spawner.

Before the Wurt skill tree I had an idea about an skill that unlocked a fish tank craft. Different fishes would periodically produce resources when fed in these fish tanks. Sweetish for example would produce sugar that is functionally the same as honey but with higher sanity gain. Sunfish would emit light able to make crops grow at night, Bloomfin would  produce three seeds from one fruit, and... I  run out of ideas.
