How do you set it up? Do you use a long horizontal wall or box them in?

Horizontal wall. And interestingly, their number speeds up the brightshade hitting.

I feel like this has potential from some cheesy strategies. The only problem I'm thinking about is getting to spawn in a specific spot.

This isn't a huge problem once you've collected all the random saplings in the world. Then, sooner or later, a brightshade will spawn on a single planted sapling.
