NoKrampusSack
Hey guys. I wrote WAY too much for this post. After Actually trying out Warly for while, I've come to the conclusion that this man (and like WX and Webber) is most desperately in need of a skill tree alongside general buffs. While I'm not about to make an entire skill tree for him, I thought it'd be nice to lay out a lot of detailed and in-depth ideas for what I want out of a Warly skill tree. These are a bit of a tangent (and LONG) but I'm gonna try to format them neatly. Enjoy: -Starting off strong, “Warly gets extra damage and slower spoiling time using spoilage based weapons and tools(?)” I think this would be a nice misc skill that mostly affects Ham bats and Kelp stalks but Klei could also make cooking weapons and tools a possibility for him making this the final skill of that branch. (very far out idea, however if they gave Merms tools I don't think its too out of the box. it'd serve as a niche skill even without the cooking tools and weapons idea) Volt Goats -Anything involving volt goat herding would be great as the only way to reliably get horns is by making a volt goat farm (Volt goat farms are kind of easy and not necessarily a bad thing, but I think it’d be nice giving Warly a better way to access his strongest dish; saw an idea by biddo where Warly can also milk them for.. electric milk. as for the horn gathering itself my best idea was using a razor on a tamed goat and you'd get one horn, afterwards it'd grow back after a while similar to beefalo.) Note: probably make it so that tamed(?) volt goats cannot become charged ones at all. Note 2: Given how rare butter is, if Klei were to add the Ability for Warly to make Butter out of goat milk, this skill would allow for Reliable Fresh Fruit Crepe cooking. Food spoilage -Adding onto this, seeing as Warly usually has to carry food to get benefits is a bit punishing. As without bundling wraps, the worry of spoilage usually makes the player always paranoid; especially towards Volt Goat Chaud-Froid (Jelly). My ideas were, either give Warly a semi expensive one slot bundling wrap for food specifically or buff all of his special foods so that the effects last a whole day. (spices should last a little longer too) (I understand Warly might be the least beginner friendly character in the game, making the bundling wrap thing a moot point. However even for the average casual player, a bee queen kill isn’t something That's on the priority list and you do have to consider blueprint sharing in a multiplayer setting, I think the latter idea is miles better even if it shouldn't be a whole day but the first one should also be considered) Farming -After playing Warly for a while, something I noticed was that farming for his spice plants sucked, like really badly. my idea was, Warly gets a dedicated farming section where one of the skills is he always gets a guaranteed seed from any non-rotten non-giant plant no matter the weather conditions or elsewise. (might be a bit broken honestly, however farming for specifically Garlic, Peppers and less importantly Onion gets tiresome as it Genuinely makes Warly feel like the farming character) (No current ideas for more Farming skills ) Note: For those who are concerned with this idea taking away from Wormwood, Wormwood got 1 skill total that has anything to do with Crop Farming and he was essentially turned into a Utility/Combat character, so I think an Exception can be made for Warly and his spices. Spices -Speaking of spices, lets address the Koalefant in the room: Honey and salt aside, the garlic and pepper to spices ratio is abysmal. 3 veggies to 2 spices is insane and frankly not worth it even for the powerful effects they bring (theres a strong argument to be made otherwise, however strictly speaking I don't think I should be farming giant crops to use one of my main perks) -idea was to nerf(?) the amount of veggies needed for both to be 1 so it’d be a 1-2 conversion or making a few skills dedicated to more spice production (think of Wendy getting a chance for more potions, but its guaranteed) Chef's Specials -Buffs to some underwhelming dishes. Which include: -Buffing Glow berry mousse (the light buff aoe from it fades away too fast) -Asparagazpacho and Hot Dragon Chili Salad currently require way too many exotic ingredients for what they do. (very nit picky again but these 2 dishes are not worth their cost for what they do and I'd like to change that. Asparagazpacho now requires, 1x asparagus 2x ice and one filler and Hot Dragon Chili Salad would be, 1x dragon fruit some veggie and 2 filler) (This makes the dishes better as an on the road way of cooling down or heating up which don't require bundles) -Making Monster Tartare reduce slightly less stats making it a good early game option. -Fish Cordon Bleu lasting longer for more spring activity. -Grim Galette cooking recipe requiring any veggies instead of onion and potato specifically. -Making Puffed Potato Soufflé Give more stats. -Moqueca now requires an onion and any veggie instead of a tomato. This is honestly where my semi unique ideas end. so now I'm just gonna throw out some basic ideas that I haven't put much thought into: -Buffing the Chef pouch in anyway. -Guaranteed more meats and higher ingredient drop chances from every mob as varying skills. -Skills that make Warlys hunger drain Equal (or even lower) to that of Wilsons. -Unique healing item to counteract the less nutrients from healing foods. -Old shipwrecked perk that makes him gain more nutrients from any crockpot dish that Do not have the 2 day Memory cooldown active. (if the idea of eating raw ingredients is out of the window, I think this is a nice thing for Warly that doesn't have to be Skill tree Exclusive even) -Adding onto this let the man eat jerky or add some special dishes that Specifically require Dried foods (really nit picky one, but I always found it redundant that Warly cant do anything with jerky) -Adding adding onto this, id like to see some more Base Kit Special recipes that have effects (maybe spices too) -Portable pot cooking even faster skills (boring but a good one) -Setting configs for portable pot and seasoning station (linked below) -No current ideas for unique affinities that aren't brilliance and horror spice so id like to hear your guys idea on that topic. With all that being said, writing this took too long but after playing Warly for a good while, I fell in love with a lot of his character quirks and gimmicks but found myself wanting more in so many Gameplay aspects. I know a lot of the ideas seem way far out. but knowing what skill trees are currently, id like Warly to get a very unique tree. Note: While i do understand little or even none of these ideas fix Warlys issue as a swap character, I've come to the Conclusion that unless Klei go to the extremes, Warly will always be considered a swap character at heart; to me at least. I wanted to make this post not to necessarily fix his issue of being a Swap character, but to make him much more enjoyable, functional and engaging to play as. Hope you guys enjoyed, lemme know what you guys think and Thank you for reading. remember to keep it civil. brednas7
I got some ideas for Warly, Pre spiced cooking: cooking with garlic, pepper, honey, any type of jerk or 2 dried kelp gives dishes there respective spices already applied, cooking order is salt > pepper > garlic > honey if multiple ingredients are present. Shadow affinity I, Shadow customer: gives Warly the ability to leave a dish in full darkness or give it to a shadow hand as an offering for various rewards like crop specific seeds, luring certain animals or materials depending on the dish, each dish got a pre set reward and can have different cooldown time, end of cooldown will be marked by a subtle *ding* noise and Warly quotes about it. Grim Galette needs 1 onion and 1 potato, not 2 onions. 2 Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/167006-long-list-of-warly-skill-tree-ideas-general-changes-and-other-stuff/#findComment-1826963 Share on other sites

Yeah_No
Overall, I think these ideas are pretty good. The farming skill seems pretty fitting for warly, especially since wormwood's skilltree made him significantly less farming focused since most of his perks are now related to utility and some combat, and warly is the survivor who would likely benefit most from getting skills related to crops since many of his custom dishes require farm-grown veggies as well as pepper and garlic spices (especially pepper). Guaranteeing a seed back on crops would be nice to avoid feeling the need to sit at base and babysit the crops, and not getting giants due to being more hands-off could be remedied by simply having more farm tiles (though, some care would still need to be shown to some crops in order to extend the farm, which is a good thing really). I really like the idea of volt goat taming to make getting those resources easier to get. It shouldn't be as fast to get goat horns than a regular volt goat farm, but having an easier to set-up way would be a lot nicer, aswell as the idea of milking the volt goats and being able to turn the milk into butter would be great as giving the chef character greater access to dairy dishes would never hurt (the whole idea of Warly is wanting variety in his diet, afterall, and a lot of dairy dishes are pretty cool). The buffs to his exclusive dishes are fair. Asparagazpacho and dragon chili salad would be nice to have easier access too, same with fish cordon bleu having a longer effect as having a character exclusive way to fight against most seasons that can also be shared with other players would just be very nice to have more access to since right now I don't see them often used. Glowberry mousse lasting longer would just be plain nice too. Jerky related stuff would be cool, the fact he can't benefit from dried food at all other than it lasting longer is kinda silly, and just letting him use it in a way other than meat (or veggie from dried kelp) value would be neat. 2 hours ago, brednas7 said: I got some ideas for Warly, Pre spiced cooking: cooking with garlic, pepper, honey, any type of jerk or 2 dried kelp gives dishes there respective spices already applied, cooking order is salt > pepper > garlic > honey if multiple ingredients are present. This shadow affinity seems like it could be very interesting and give more reason to cook less-used/more obscure dishes for different rewards, and I like the idea of having Warly cook for others even when playing solo. 1 Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/167006-long-list-of-warly-skill-tree-ideas-general-changes-and-other-stuff/#findComment-1826973 Share on other sites
GrapeVruit
I'd also love if there was a skill that allowed Warly to season Hambat's. You could salt em' to persevere their freshness or season them with his spices get extra buffs. I'd feel it'd be pretty fitting for the chef. And on the topic of salt, I think it'd be neat if he could turn freshwater ponds into saltwater ponds, akin to the ones in the Gorge. It'd make getting salt crystals much less of a hassle. He isnt that usefull untill mid game where his farm is set up, and by then everyone else already kill every bosses and dont even need his spices Just now, Edible Coal said: He isnt that usefull untill mid game where his farm is set up, and by then everyone else already kill every bosses and dont even need his spices tbh the skill tree would probably gurantee to have some kind of spice sharing ability when warly is the one eating it, makes sense and it cuts down his prep time a lot Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/167006-long-list-of-warly-skill-tree-ideas-general-changes-and-other-stuff/#findComment-1827053 Share on other sites
